志賀理江子の写真『開墾の肖像』は心霊写真として怖がられることもあるが、志賀本人はロンドンで芸術を学ぶなか19世紀の心霊写真に倣った写真作品を多く撮っていた。その延長線上にある表現がこれであると考えたなら、この写真が創作であると知らない人が超越的な気配を感じ取ったとしても違和感がない
