For several years, Apple was primarily concerned with making their smartphones fashionable at the expense of all else, including battery capacity and robustness. This was especially true in the early-to-mid-2010s, while Android smartphones were "function over form", which I always preferred.

I never cared for a second that early 2010s Samsung phones were made of "cheap" plastic, especially not given that I put a case over it anyway, so it wouldn't make a difference in feeling anyway.

Apple started made "premium designs" popular in 2010. The iPhone 4 and 4s had a rear side made of glass, which made the device fragile if not used with a case. There was also the "antennagate" scandal, where holding the phone a certain way would block the cellular signal.

The iPhone 5 and 5s had roughly half the battery capacity as their Samsung counterparts released at a similar time, the Galaxy Note 2 and 3.

The iPhone 6+ was structurally so weak that it could bend by sitting on it - the bendgate scandal. Thickness strengthens the physical structure of a smartphone.

The iPhone 6s had a battery capacity of 1715 mAh, less than the 1810 mAh of the iPhone 6, which were already poor.

In contrast to this, battery sizes over 3000 mAh are not uncommon on 2020s iPhones! And iPhones have also become thicker than before, accordingly.

This year (2025), Apple created the iPhone Air, for the folks who care about thinness. And sales figures for it were low.

Looks like even Apple realized at last that its users care more about battery capacity than about "fashionable" thinness! They realized a few millimetres of thinness isn't worth it if you need to carry a powerbank brick that is needed for compensating for the iPhone's lack of battery capacity.

This phone never gets past 5000 score on geekbench, but with iPhone Boost Pro, you will get past 5000 score and pretend you can actually hit that score outside of benchmarks.

The bad feature. The back camera stands out from the phone. It should have been like the one on iPhone 5S built in the phone. At the back at the the top of the phone that thing that stretches across the phone looks very ugly. It should have been just a line. And the phones display is smaller than iPhone 16 pro max yet it newer. For that reasons Im returning the phone back to the shop for a full refund. Im starting to hate apple they only improved quality only once that's from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5S. The rest of the designs has been bogus. All iPads have been bogus except iPad pro 10.5 2017. Apple has been building a bad reputation throughout 18 years of designing a pocket computer.

Jerry, 25 Oct 2025Nahh no bending Jerryrigeverything tested thatkeyword: "expected" the 6s (plus) didn't bend nearly as much as the 6 did, but it was expected to after the bendgate incident, nor did the 17 air despite many expecting it to. I didn't mean either actually catastrophically bent, sorry word that poorly, sorry y'all :(

One thing I like that they did was keep the titanium frame so that it still has a premium feel. Some users have reported that it feels more premium than the Pro models, which opted to go back to aluminum, and now people are complaining about scratches.

That power bank absolutely doesn't tell the whole story, it's not even a necessary accessory, as a user of the Air, I can tell you that this phone can truly easily last a day, even with plenty of usage and using it only on mobile data and it being on max brightness the whole day, 5-7 hours of SoT average. I don't have the power bank for it, and I'm not planning on buying it.

Rob, 11 Oct 2025Nah why waste money. it’s definitely not worth throwing $10... moreThank you! I guess if people want to waste their money, we might as well let them. You gotta hand it to Apple, their marketing department is awesome. Let's see if we can make people pay more for less. The fact that Apple created a battery pack accessory specifically for this phone, should tell you all you need to know. I'm not an Apple hater, I have the iPhone 12 (my favorite iPhone ever) and the 16 Pro Max, so I know what a real phone looks and feels like. I just don't see this gimmicky phone doing too well, but time will tell. I thought the iPhone Mini made more sense (and it didn't sell enough) because there is a small majority who still love small phones, but a thinner phone? Who asked for this?

If Flossy said this phone is trash for the price you pay, then I have to concur. This phone costing over $1000 is highway robbery. You could just get the base model iPhone 17 for much less and it's a much better phone. This is a niche phone with many compromises considering how much it costs. This phone should be less than the base model. Probably around $599 or $699 tops!

                                                  My quick take:
                                                  - great solid build quality. The glossy titanium paint makes it quite luxurious feel/look.
                                                  - but it’s still too big for my taste. It’s thin, but it’s still too wide for one handed use. And when it’s not comfortable to be held one handed, the thinness and weight becomes irrelevant. In fact, I felt that it’s still somewhat “heavy.”
                                                  - and it’s a perfect decoy product. Interestingly, I find that even lay consumers really like cinematic video capture. The Air doesn’t have it. Add on the Pro sporting “Hermes” orange color, guess what, consumers are opting for the more expensive orange 17 Pros. Higher ASP for Apple.

                                                  Apple executed their strategy well.
