The native tribes here apparently have a bunch of folklore about the pacific northwest being a place unhealthy to stay in because of the spiritual energy and supernatural entities. Even when the settlers came here they claimed that the Willamette valley was spiritually tainted in some way that would corrupt people. Funnily enough Portland and Eugune are directly located at the north and south end of this valley. There’s also similar folklore from both settlers and redskins about the Puget Sound region in Washington where Seattle is located too. Then there's the 12 Vile Vortices concept and how the north pacific current is known to push a lot of water and debris from one of the 12 regions directly into the pacific northwest.
