Funny and not preachy
What a ride. It's ridiculous, hilarious, and somehow manages to poke at all the heavy stuff - prejudice, self-esteem, identity, relationships - without turning into a lecture. The jokes land, the metaphors are sharp, the symbolism is actually on point (for once). That mix of goofy humor with smart commentary? Yeah, that works for me. 8/10.
Best animated film I've seen in along time
This!!!!
Insanely fresh, hilarious, unique and touching. This is an obvious future cult classic! I want to watch it again and again and again!
From the concept to the animation to the cast and crew behind it - it's beyond excellent. It has the same nostalgia of adventure time, with more heart than most romantic comedies. It's really inspiring to see a piece of film like this because it really pushes the boundaries of what you think you can and cannot do as a filmmaker and it's definitely an era defining film. So so fun!!!!!
All that's to say: DO YOURSELF A FABOUR AND GO WATCH THIS IF YOU CAN!!!

I guarantee that many will be too offended to enjoy this one.
"Lesbian Space Princess" is a film shown at the Philadelphia Film Festival and I think it doesn't take Einstein to think that this film will NOT appeal to everyone! After all, it's a gay cartoon...and with, no surprise, a lot of adult content.
The story begins with Princess Saira being dumped by her latest girlfriend. Much of it is probably due to Saira's neediness...which scares away potential partners. Part of it, you learn later, is that the hottie who broke up with her is a jerk. But before this becomes evident and after she leaves, the evil Straight White Maliens kidnap her and demand the Princess come rescue her within 24 hours...or else. But the Princess feels painfully inadequate...as she sees herself as pretty much useless. And, through the course of the film, she manages to sum up courage she never knew she possessed.
This is a crude film with lots of crude jokes....fine for adults but NOT for kids...or your mother...or Father Quigley is he happens to be visiting. But it is funny and very well made and is great...for select audiences, though this 61 year-old straight guy enjoyed it.

Painful at best
An hour and a half of cringing at borderline offensive stereotypes. Whilst the theatre was filled with howls of laughter I could not help myself and feel second hand embarrassment at the film. As a queer woman myself, who is not afraid of making fun of her own identity, this crude South Park-level attempt at comedy was even a step to far. Remember the whole "Pickle Rick" meme that took the internet by storm a few years ago? Imagine that but rainbow-washed and less clever (if such a thing is even possible).
Not all was bad tho, had it been a 5 minute Youtube video I would probably have enjoyed it, but just as vanilla extract can be delicious in your recipes when added sparingly, adding too much makes the dish gross. Some of the character interactions did get a chuckle out of me and the character of Willow was rather delightful, but unfortunately that was not enough to redeem it, let alone make it a worthwhile watch.

In space, everyone will hear you laugh
Let me preface this by saying I am not a lesbian, I am not a princess and I've never set foot in actual space (three facts I'm still salty about), and I still think it's the best movie in the galaxy.
It was not only hilarious, but hilariously clever.
I went to see it at the Berlinale a few days ago based only on the title (mind you I had not even read the pitch), and I've been wanting to see it again ever since the end credits.
The scenario is a coming of age masterpiece. The visuals are top notch. Every character is chef's kiss in its own way (even the boomer spaceship (the stickers in the end credits killed me)). The music is amazing, and the humour? It is very rare to find a story, whatever its form, where every joke lands for me. They all did in this one. And the references were truly amazing. It's the sort of nods where, if you've consumed the nodded material, you will laugh hard, and if you haven't you'll probably laugh anyway but won't feel like you've missed something, or like it was added to be added and the story tries to compensate a lack of originality. I admit I am a little biased, as it helped that the directors obviously grew up watching and loving everything I did too (only putting it in this order since I'm slightly older), but if you haven't you most likely will love it anyway too. And you'll get everything, from a priceless Twilight window scene to Mel Brooks' Men in Tights (and others) and Sailor Moon, and so many more I'm still laughing about (that my cis white malians friends hadn't seen and they loved the movie. See? If you don't listen to me listen to them).
If I were president of the Galaxy, I'd make it mandatory. Please act as if I actually were and watch it, talk about it, rave about it, because I want to see everything else the directors make in the future, I don't even care what it is about. This movie needs the success it deserves.
