Why is society so obsessed with height?
Height is a big deal for many people when it comes to looking for a partner, especially for women. Whilst men are not as stringent when it comes to height, many prefer petite women especially taller men.
I’ve always been pretty tall. Standing at 5"8, I’m a lot taller than the average woman who is around 5"3/5"4. I don’t think my height made me very popular with men. My mum who is also the same height as me always said that taller women are overlooked because men prefer petite women. I have found this to be true. My much shorter, petite friends were always far more popular with the guys, especially the ones who were around 5 foot or shorter.
I used to be one of those women who cared about height. Whilst I was never as stringent as some women, I wouldn’t have dated a guy who was shorter than me or even a little bit taller than me. My ideal height for a man would have been 6ft and over. It wasn’t until I met my boyfriend that I realized that height really doesn’t matter. Ironically shorter men have tended to fancy me more than tall men. When I was younger, there was a guy in my friendship circle who was around 5"4 and he had a huge thing for me. His height was part of the reason I wasn’t interested, but he was quite creepy and intense apart from his short stature.
