Combat system is so bad...
The hex turned based system is so wrong for this type of game. It needs real time with complete freedom of movement, like every other pirate game.

So many players said that, but looking like developers refusing to feedbacks.

Hi everybody,
please be aware that the footage and possible combat you have seen so far is still work in progress, as the game is still right in the middle of development.
However, there are no plans to change the turn-based combat, with real-time combat.
Yet, best would be hanging tight and waiting for the game to progress in development and/or for the release and probably having your hands on it. Might be not as bad as you think it would be right now.
Please stay tuned and be aware, we welcome all kind of feedback at any time.
Thank you in advance.

-cheers

Who plays these games for the combat, anyway?

Who plays these games for trade? I mean, what's the point of makeing and buying goods, when You can just grab it from cold hands of your opponents? I spent my childhood in PR 2 and conquering was giving most fun. But it was expensive, so I had to create some economical engine with trading convoys and manufacture. Combination of this 2 strategies was strong side of this game. Presently I have no idea, how developers want to compete with Anno and other eco simulations.

Moreover why they create 2 military character classes and missions without reasonable combat system?

And combat system is not bad IMO, it's just a joke. xD

The issue here is we got used to the realtime combat. I feel like the turn-based combat detracts a bit from the feel of the game. I guess we'll see how it turns out.

i prefere turn based so i'm happy ^^

I believe turn-based makes sense given the map movement speed - if it was real time while the rest of the world kept "ticking" it would mess with all balance. Though it could be an "instanced"' real time, like a total war game.

Anyways, if the turn based is done right (with right modifiers, abilities, etc...) it could be as good as real time (that usually is harder for AI to present a good challenge). As the devs said, it won't be changed anyway...

@Juvenildo

Port Royale 1 had 10vs10 real time battles + multiplayer
Port Royale 2 had 1vs5 realtime battles and it was singleplayer only
Port Royale 3 had 3vs3 realtime battles + multiplayer
Port Royale 4 = turn based battles and single player only

It's a bit weird that the first Port Royale had the best system and it got worse with every new game.

I personally think that realtime battles are far superior, especially since i've played PR1,PR2,PR3

But as i've said before, Port Royale 4 will be turn based and they won't change it.
Just gotta deal with it now.

Yep, they are a disappoint.

I didn't used the combat system in PR3 cause it was too bad for me. (And Autoresult was OP)
On PR4 i like that its more complex and slower... The PR2 Combat system was the most comfortable for me.

I'm willing to keep an open mind until I try it. Real-time is fun, but turn-based is perhaps more realistic because it depends more on sound decisions than twitch reflexes. Real naval battles often took one or more hours, after a chase that lasted hours or days.

i dont like turn based gameplay... that was cool in the 90´s but today i dont like that type of play
i like all other aspects from the game which looks very beautiful but the combat nah

Different tastes. For me turn based + Single player is the favored outcome.

For me too! I´m sure mostly of PR/Patrician players don´t care much about war.
Arkantos 5 May, 2020 @ 4:22pm
Without war the game is boring.
