UNSC
Background
Created by the United Nations due to a need to militarily address conflicts in the Sol System, the UNSC came to be in the middle of the 22nd century. Primarily utilized to stop the fighting between Friedens and Koslovics, the UNSC became the sole military entity governing the Sol System after the Interplanetary War.
HighCom
UNSC High Command. Consisting of a small group of the highest-ranking officers, HighCom is usually referred to as "the Admiralty," however incorrect the phrase is. HighCom covers both ground and naval foces, and therefore includes both Admirals and Generals. The low number of members in HighCom, less than twenty, keeps dissention to a minimum and expedites decision making.
UniCom
The Unified Ground Command arm of the UNSC is in charge of all ground-based operations, and is loosely modeled after the United States Marine Corps. The duties delegated to UniCom include disaster relief, reconnaissance operations, infantry operations and anything else that may fall under the jurisdiction of ground operations. As the infantry arm of the UNSC, UniCom works in far greater numbers than HighCom, with different levels of units.
Squad
Twelve regular soldiers under the command of either a Corporal or a Lance Corporal, making thirteen total.
Platoon
Three squads (minus the Corporals) under the command of a Second Lieutenant and a Sergeant of Staff Sergeant serving as Platoon Sergeant. This makes a total of thirty-eight men.
Company
Four platoons total, Companies have extra personnel assigned to them as a Company Headquarters Section. A Company is commanded by a First Lieutenant or Captain, with the aid of a Staff or Gunnery Sergeant. In total, this makes for 166 men.
Battalion
Commanded by a Major Lieutenant Colonel, aided by at least a Gunnery Sergeant, a Battaion consists of Four companies and a group of personnel assigned as a Battalion Headquarters Section. A Battalion consists of about eight hundred men.
Regiment
Three battalions and a Regimental Headquarters Section under the command of a Colonel, or even a Brigadier General. Totals at around three thousand men.
Division
The larges unit of all, a Division consists of three regiments, a Division Headquarters Section, medical personnel, combat engineers, maintenance, MP's, and other support units. These fourteen thousand men are commanded by a Brigadier General or Major General.
Unlike UniCom, the UNSC Naval Command operates from three distinct entities within itself.
FleetCom
As the primary arm of the UNSC navy, Fleet Operations Command oversees ship deployment, mission structures, and anything that might involve space travel.
The Navy Logistics Operations Command is in charge of the construction, maintenane and distribution of everything from food and ammunition to war ships for the fleet.
Although it's a part of NavCom, the Naval Special Weapons department answers to both NavCom and UniCom. On the field, however, Unicom has primary control over the activities of NavSpecWep troops. NavSpecWep works closely with ONI, which would place projects such as the Spartans in the NavSpecWep arm of NavCom.
