I am excited to share with you that I have recently started my new position as a Community Outreach Officer at Lawyers Who Care. As a young person who was in the care system myself, I have often felt ashamed to open up to people about my background out of fear of being looked down upon. However, over time I have learnt to accept that this is part of my story and who I am as well as being what motivated me to pursue a career in law. Therefore, I look forward to being part of a team of like-minded individuals improving peoples' understanding and acceptance of care-experienced people aspiring to have a career in law.
⭐️ MEET OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH TEAM ⭐️ Thrilled to announce the extension to our team with new posts now in place for our wider outreach. Chloe Pomfret “I’m Chloe, a Human Sciences student at the University of Oxford. I sent much of my childhood in foster care and I’m now one of a small handful of care-experienced and estranged students at my university, campaigning for greater awareness and support whilst here. I’m incredibly excited to support LWC as the Community Outreach Lead, building our connections, and supporting our mentees and mentors. From my university experience so far, I’ve noticed the lack of representation and support for care-experienced people and hope to provide this during my time with LWC!” Lisa-Maria E. “My name is Lisa-Maria and I am studying Global Law. I live in New Zealand but come from Brighton. I love learning languages and travelling. I speak German, English, French, Spanish and Italian along with some basic Japanese. In my free time, I love ice-skating. I am a care-leaver and love to help make positive changes and therefore LWC is the perfect fit for me!” Leah Jayne “My name is Leah. I’m 24 and care-experiened. I came into the system at 13 years old. I graduated with a master’s degree in psychology last year and am about to start my teacher training. I’m passionate about social mobility, connecting young people with opportunities they once thought out of reach and elevating the voices of our care-experienced community.”
Congratulations. You will be amazing. They are lucky to have you 😀
