Another classic STG and another very competent PC port...if City Connection can do it, I don't know what is stopping others from releasing more shmups on Steam. I've bought every one of the Psikyo games on day 1, and can't wait for the rest of the collection- kudos to the devs for keeping the games coming.

10/10 - An exceptional Shoot Em' Up. Probably the best vehicle "The Flying Pancake" in Shoot Em' Up history! The boss designs are some of the best out there.

This is my favorite shmup of all time. This version only goes up to 1080p so if you have a 1440p monitor like me, the game can look a bit blurry. Also the controls are kind of weird, but it does work with a DS5 without the need for dualsenseX and lets you customize them, though it just says button 1, 2, etc so youd have to figure that out.
I think for the faults it may not be worth it, but I couldnt pass it up for $2.
I think the PS1 version is the best aside from arcade of course, but also have it on switch.

Got sick of it really quick. So many better shmups out there. However, not bad on the cheap for a simple mindless shmup. Pretty lame bosses.

Freezes when you pause it. Enabling steam input fixes the freezing, but then when you alt tab it freezes in the menu anyway. So I just can't win with this game, idk what to do to fix it

🎮 Detailed and Positive Review of "Strikers 1945 II"

#Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
Developers: Psikyo (original), CITY CONNECTION / Zerodiv (re-release)
Genre: Shoot 'em up (Shmup) / Arcade
Platforms: Originally Arcade; later re-released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile devices

🌟 Overview
"Strikers 1945 II" is the sequel to the acclaimed shmup "Strikers 1945," originally released in arcades in 1997. It belongs to the golden era of 2D shoot ‘em ups and exemplifies everything that makes the classic bullet hell genre so beloved. The re-release by CITY CONNECTION and Zerodiv faithfully preserves the original game’s essence, bringing nostalgia with subtle updates for both new players and veterans.

✅ Positive Highlights
✈️ Solid and Precise Gameplay
The game's main strength lies in its refined and responsive controls. Aircraft movement feels fluid—critical in a shmup with such fast and complex bullet patterns. Every movement counts, and the margin for error is tight but fair.

🔫 Wide Variety of Aircraft
The game features six different planes, each based on historical World War II models, with unique main attacks, charge shots, and special bombs. This adds significant replayability, as gameplay strategy changes depending on your aircraft choice.

🌈 Retro Visuals and Classic Effects
The pixel art graphics are beautiful and vibrant, perfectly capturing the arcade style of the 90s. Colorful projectiles, giant mechanical bosses, and explosion effects bring a retro-futuristic battlefield to life. The re-releases preserve this look faithfully with improved scaling and resolution.

🎵 Energetic Soundtrack
The soundtrack, composed by Masaki Izutani, is high-energy and matches the on-screen chaos perfectly. The sounds of bullets, hits, and explosions are satisfying and well-mixed, even in modern re-releases.

💥 Balanced Challenge
The game offers progressive difficulty, with well-tuned enemy AI. Casual players can enjoy the early stages, while hardcore shmup fans will find a serious challenge in the later levels and higher difficulties.

♻️ Replay Value and Portability
Thanks to its scoring system, multiple endings, and fast-paced progression, "Strikers 1945 II" offers excellent replay value. On modern consoles like the Switch and PS4, it’s perfect for quick sessions or longer marathons.

🛠️ Improvements in the CITY CONNECTION / Zerodiv Re-Releases
Save states and quick continues, helping newcomers enjoy the experience.

Custom difficulty and control settings.

Screen filters (CRT, scanlines) recreate the arcade feel.

Faithful arcade emulation, preserving the core gameplay intact.

🤔 Minor Drawbacks (That Don’t Ruin the Experience)
No online multiplayer, which could be a great addition in modern ports.

Some menus and UI elements feel slightly outdated.

Lack of extra content like art galleries or behind-the-scenes material that could enrich the re-release.

🏁 Conclusion
"Strikers 1945 II" is a masterpiece of the shoot ‘em up genre, blending technical challenge, intense action, and classic visual charm. CITY CONNECTION and Zerodiv deserve praise for preserving this arcade gem and making it accessible to new generations without compromising its authenticity.

It’s highly recommended for retro gaming fans, action lovers, and anyone curious about the legacy of Japanese arcade shooters. A timeless gem in the shmup world.

Final Score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.8/5)

If you like the first game, then you will almost certainly like this one. Like the first Strikers, this game is is quite challenging, but still quite fun. It's especially satisfying to 1CC (I've only been able to do this on child difficulty so far). If there is any complaint that I have, it's that some of the late-game bosses and mini bosses have laser attacks that serve as cheap beginners traps. These will almost certainly cause you to lose a life the first time around, so heads-up. Buy this if you like shmups and are itching to add another to your collection (I would especially recommend getting the series bundle if there's a sale).

Choosing between this and Strikers 1 is a tough choice, but I think this is probably the winner with slight improvements to just about everything. That being said, you have gotta play both. Some of the best shmups ever made. About as close to perfect as it gets.

Basically the same feeling as Arcade and M.A.M.E but with enhanced features, with no option to save state which is good. You can select difficulty from level 1 to 7, but core mechanics are the same. One good addition is the option to hold the fire button for continuous shoot for regular attack, and a separate button for regular shooting mode with option to hold for special attack. Furthermore, a lot of options are added: you can adjust the display, change buttons assignment, upload your score online for rankings, change the UI, and much more.

I haven't beat the game on Normal difficulty, I started at level 1 for warm up. This game is a must buy if you wanna go back to nostalgic feeling of arcade days, but this time, with enhanced version and achievements to unlock.

10/10

My personal favourite psycho shmup and one of the best shmups off all time. The game was published in a era were we had a transition from classic shmups to bullet hell and that combination made a quite unique game. It is a classic shmup at his core. The bullet patterns are simple but not basic, full of fast bullets and some curtains of slow bullets (therefore some elements of early bullet hell) where you have to do toggle between macro dodges and precise and hard micrododges (this last one a trademark of psycho games) because it was designed to don´t have a focus button. The combination of this elements make the action unique and quite frenetic even for a shmup. The difficulty is high as this games were made to steal quarters. The game does not suffer from the same problems of classic shmups (gradius syndrome, no autofire , big hitbox) therefore it handled well the test of time. It is still good after all these years (in fact it gets even better). There are 2 buttons , a fire and bomb, altough you will need one more for autofire that is easy to configure. There is a meter on the screen that increases when you hit enemyes and allows you to hold the fire button and do a super shot (that is stronger than a normal shoot but does not clear the screen of bullets like a bomb) and then you have to replenish it. The enemyes are diverse and fun. bosses have many transformations. The order of the initial stages is random, but the difficulty changes with that order wich increases the replayability has the games will always be different. There are many different ships that are not well balanced, but once you find the best ones (cough , cough flying panckae) you will put the bad ones aside. some ships suffer have bad bomb design (as the bomb takes to long to appear on screen) and won´t save if the enemy bullet is near. The graphics, sound and music are good but Some of the levels could have better bullet visibility as some of the backgrounds blend with enemys bullets (could have more contrast), but those are minor complains and you will get used to it.
Now about the port. i had minor problems configuring my joystick and putting the screen in tate mode. whenever i start the game i have to change to tate and sometimes the button configuration. That copuld be fixed. the lag is good , there are options to change the difficulty without having to go to dipswitches like mame or other emulator. it could have been better, but it is still a step above emulation. The price is right considering the age and the quality of the game. I recommend This game as for me even with some problems is a masterpiece and one of the best shmup off alltime.

"Strikers 1945 II" is very, very difficult, even more difficult than the original. There's simply too many bullets on screen to get far without continues, even on "very easy." The 'power shot' is a great addition to your weaponry, but it takes too long to charge up for regular use. You must be strategic, but you'll likely be blown up to pieces and lose all of its charge waiting for the right moment to unload the massive firepower. On a final note, the music is worlds better in "Strikers 1945 II" over the original.

The developers have done a great job, as usual, including the option to tune difficulty, lives, and continues to your level of skill. I warn you - even the easiest setting is difficult. As with most of the other Psikyo shooters, keep playing and you'll find a very enjoyable shooter experience.
