Huizhou Fried Rice: A Culinary Delight and Life Reflection
Huizhou Fried Rice, Delicious!
1. I picked up some Huizhou egg fried rice and a plate of farm-style tofu from the hotel restaurant. The hotel’s homemade plum wine sat prominently at the front desk. Even though my throat has been bothering me lately and I shouldn’t drink, I couldn’t resist a small sip. I texted a friend, “My throat isn’t getting better. I wonder if it’s because I’m not drinking.” She replied, “I can’t argue with that.” I told her, “I’m totally at peace with it now. If it’s bad, it’s bad. If I’m hoarse, I’m hoarse.” I keep a note called “My Journey Treating Pharyngitis in the Year of the Dragon.” It records every time I’ve had pharyngitis this year and how I treated it. Looking back, the causes, peaks, and relief all follow a similar pattern. Some things or people, no matter if you’re eager for them to arrive or leave, have their own rhythm. It has little to do with your expectations. Don’t fool yourself with expectations. Heraclitus said, “He who does not expect will not be disappointed.” Seneca added, “It does not surprise me that fear and hope walk together, for both belong to a hesitant mind, and both are states of mind caused by anxiety about the future.”
