Wait…Twitchcon made Vtubers remove their masks…In front of everyone instead of having a separate section away from the public to do this? If a streamer is Faceless, one of the biggest reasons for being faceless is to feel safe but the fact they are making Vtubers unmask in front of 100s of people… I understand it’s for security reasons, BUT THEN JUST DO IT IN A PRIVATE ROOM where nobody is around. I feel sorry for the people who had to do this :(

Wearing a mask as a faceless streamer or as a Vtuber, is to protect their identity. Not because they are “special”. They deserve to feel safe and attend a convention. Just because security did not ask you to remove your mask, it doesn’t mean it did not happen to others. A big example is Chibidoki. Other mutual Vtubers of mine have also posted about this. This is not about being special. It’s safety. Don’t be a jerk.

They are nothing special and just normal people like everyone else stop making them out to be some sort of bloody super hero get a grip! if people don’t know who they are then what’s it matter?

Faceless Streamers have every right to wear masks to protect their identities. It’s not about being a hero or anything. It’s about protecting how they look entirely. Period. Everyone should be able to attend and be feeling safe.

They didn’t have to. They chose to when entering.

No. There was situations that they said that they would not let people enter u less they would remove their masks before entering.

Twitch is quite literally and this is bot hyperbole, the worst streaming site ever and it continues to baffle me that people still use it For the sake of y’all’s own good, just give up on it

Has this been a problem at every Twitchcon or was it just this year?

Twitchcon sure is getting a ton of backlash over this, and it's immeasurable

Absolutely agree - it’s ridiculous and insensitive that TwitchCon forced Vtubers and faceless streamers to unmask publicly like that. If someone chooses to stay masked, it’s obviously for their own safety and privacy, often to avoid real-world harassment or doxxing risks that come with the job. Not providing a private space for verification just piles on the poor handling, especially after all the reported issues from past cons like the foam pit incidents, sexual assaults, and general mistreatment of creators. It really highlights how Twitch seems incapable of running a safe, respectful convention for the very people who built their platform. Hope things improve, but this is a huge red flag and I would advise creators, especially female creators and vtubers to not attend any more TwitchCons until Twitch is held accountable and they fix their leadership, moderation and security issues.

Tbh I think if vtubers specifically are going to go to the lengths to hide their identity like that then they just shouldn’t go to conventions. Or organize a vtuber only event and make their own rules.

They were beyond stupid, it’s obvious they are out of touch with the community and reality.

This is the first hearing this. I wasn't asked to remove my mask but at the same time security were dumb. Certain security members looked like they didnt want to do anything and other were doing too much. It was soo inconsistent.

That's like unmasking the lone Ranger. The court ordered it but the actor removed the mask, then put on sunglasses right away. Covering his face. It's a private thing A Villain E

There has to be an incompetency competition for convention staff and security going on right now, otherwise I can't explain why TwitchCon staff and security are trying their hardest to get first place My whole timeline is filled with posts about idiotic things they did...

Yeah I just kept reading things like that kept happening

Honestly, face reveals should be up to the streamer, not some yahoo that wants to see their face. Sometimes these faceless streamers and Vtubers are more recognizable with their masks ON. Forcing them to take off the mask means you don't care about the community they helped make.

I saw a post similar to this that a person was annoyed about having to take off her mask to enter an event so day 2 she wore a clear mask and still made her take it off

I've been to multiple cosplay conventions and they never asked people with masks to take them off, that's like asking people with face paint to take it off when entering the building. You should only have to verify your identity when picking up badges or entering VIP areas.

Wait what that’s scary

It is horror stories like this and a lot of other things that make me pass on twitchcon until the end of time.

Sucks that they really didn’t seem to take considerations towards streamers at the streaming event…

The more i read about this twitch con the more i belive that twitch is making everything in their power to put streamers/vutuber in danger on purpose

Twitchcon looks like an overall terrible disaster. There was the foam pit paralysis a few years back, and now this, as well as the Emiru and Chibi situations. Makes me glad I never went to one with how streamers are being mistreated.

Wait, seriously? This is the first I've heard about this. But seriously, I know security is a thing, but as you said, could easily ask them to unmask in a private area. Seeming more and more like Twitch just don't care about the people who make them so much money.

between this, the wristbands not working, and multiple streamers being sexually assaulted i think twitchcon needs to be ended entirely and everyone in charge of it needs to be fired

I just realized that there were irl streamers pretty much filming everything there. I hope no one ended up getting doxed because of that.

I’m surprised I haven’t heard any creators talk of boycotting the con until they can figure out how to maintain safety and anonymity for the talents. It seems like they’ve consistently been doing a piss poor job of prioritizing the people who literally carry the platform.
Replying to @Yukime_VT
They apparently did for few of them but I personally didn’t have the problem they didn’t ask me to remove it
