an ex-PLA soldier in China was sent all the way to Italy just to whack someone there
Oct 17: former PLA soldier Fang Nengyin was convicted of the attempted murder of Chinese businessman Chang Meng Zhang at the Number One club on Via Scarlatti in Prato on July 6, 2024, amid a Chinese textile turf war known as The War of the Hangers which has spread across Europe from Prato — home to the largest fast fashion district on the continent and the epicenter of the turf war. Fang was sentenced to seven and a half years in jail, the same sentence given to the other five assailants in April.
Fang was part of a commando of Chinese from Fujian and Zhejiang provinces who had come from China specifically "to use violence to protect the business interests of the monopoly group in the hangers sector," a highly profitable product in the clothing industry.
Zhang, the victim of the assault, is involved in this business and has previously been convicted of the manslaughter of Zhijian Su, a representative of the Eurotrans/Oulian company, committed in San Giuseppe Vesuviano in Naples in Mar 2006.
On July 6, 2024, Zhang was ambushed at the Number One club in Prato, boxed in, struck multiple times with a glass bottle and then knives, punched, kicked, and finally stabbed several times in the abdomen.
Despite his serious injuries, he survived after multiple surgeries and began “a fruitful collaboration with the Italian justice system”.
