talks about this in her new book; the toxic logic of the Patriarchy is ultimately harmful to both men and women in how it conditions men to view themselves.
My hot take is that believing men feel insecure about making less money than their partner must necessarily be because they're abusive manipulators is just ignoring how a lot of men are raised to value themselves (by their ability to contribute/what they can offer).
This- and also, it’s not surprising to see that as that traditional “provider” role has become more impossible, some men double down on the “protector” trope, literally making themselves bigger and bigger & exuding (or enacting) violence
A fair amount of guys are going to feel like they're a useless lump on a log if they can't put an actual objective metric to what they're giving to their partner, and while I don't think that's healthy we aren't talking about health here, we're talking about how people think.
It’s somehow always the same exact kind of guys who say these things are just a joke,” or “big talk” or “blowing off steam” or just a guy who “had a really bad day,” even after he killed 9 people (can’t make this sh*t up if I tried). I just can’t with this crap.
JD Vance dismisses Young Republicans who in a group chat said "I love Hitler" and joked about slavery and rape as "a bunch of kids" who "told stupid jokes" and adds that "most of the stupid things I did when I was a teenager and young adult, they're not on the internet."
