Vit D saved me

Recommendations

I just wanna encourage everyone, i think most people can't take 20min of sun everyday. I used to have extreme brain fog til i started taking vit d 2 years ago and everything changed. I think a lot of people dont realize they're missing this VERY important nutrient. Not only it changed my mind but it changed my body. I take 1000 ui everyday. Total game changer in the times we live.

Totally stopped suicidal ideation for me. I think it’s a good idea to test your levels first though too much D is possible.

Nice! 1000 ui daily is pretty safe tbh. Vit D is underrated

Here in Spain we're getting more sunlight since winter has ended and i ve been feeling better with more energy and good mood :).

My D level was at 12 ng/mL. I have been supplementing for 6 weeks and I am finally starting to notice some effects; less fatigue and less brain fog. How long before you noticed a difference?

And for those saying go outside, not everyone can tolerate sun. I have lupus, direct sunlight for even 20 minutes can make me feel very ill. Nausea, vomiting, migraine… I’d rather supplement than feel sick every day. I still go outside all the time, I have to find shade or cover up for most of it.

My D-levels are still hovering around 50 (50 being the lowest end of normal value in my country) despite taking 80ug per day for a year. Any tips?

I live way up north in Scandinavia by the way, so I get fuck all sun for 8 months out of the year.

Maybe your body is not absorbing it. Take it with some oil to increase absortion. I used to take it with Olive oil.

Geez, I struggle to get over 31....here in the U.S. doctors say 30 is low normal. It's interesting the way countries are so variable in standards of health. U.S. seems quite sub par.

[deleted]

(I take it in the drops form, i don’t take capsules)

Try also taking magnesium and k2. Those are cofactors which puts the vitamin d where it needs to be.

I took 10k iu between jan-march last year, then 5k iu between march-aug while working out in the sun everyday. I got tested at 50 ng/ml in sept.

just a heads up, the benefits you get from sunlight >>> vit d supplements

Its not even funny how much better sunlight is, for those who live in the fucking north. Sunlight is easily 30 times more effective to improve health and mood.

I live in a part of the world where one in three people have skin cancer. My parents both have skin cancer. My barber almost died from a melanoma. Ironically, we had a free dress day at my high school (uniforms are compulsory in Australia) to honour a 16 year old past student who died of melanoma at the age of 16. Ironic because our uniforms are far more sun safe than the clothes we wear on that day to “honour” the girl who died of skin cancer.

I’m so white I can’t be in the sun more than five minutes without getting burned. I think sunscreen defeats the purpose of using the sun to get vitamin D (correct me if I’m wrong) because it blocks the rays that actually allow your body to produce Vitamin D.

It’s like white people never should have colonised this part of the world or something. This is our punishment and we will probably all die off in a few generations.

Using a vitamin D calculator backed up by actual research papers indicates that 1,000 iu per day isn’t even enough to maintain a 20 ng/ ml serum level depending on your weight. I’d recommend getting a blood test to see where you’re sitting at exactly.

For long-term use, should vit-d really be taken with K-2? I know the basic reasons why it’s good, but does anyone have any further knowledge on it?

Yes.

Also add magnesium.

To oversimplify, Magnesium is required for absorption of vit D. Vit D aids calcium absorption. But for calcium to get in the bones, you need K2-Mk7.

    I took 20,000 units/day with vitamin k & magnesium. My vitamin d level is 120. A little high but ok. So I'm backing off to 10,000 units/day.

Is it normal to not get sunburnt with zero sunscreen all summer while being out in the sun for hours? I have an olive skin tone.

You only need 15-20 minutes of midday sun to get the beneficial effects of vitamin d production, not hours. but sunscreen does block the uv rays necessary for its production. so do sunglasses. your eyes can also produce vit d through light absorption.

I have very white skin, and I rarely burn. I’m not sure how many hours you are talking, but nutrition and olive skin tone go a long way. The only time I burn is if I am at the beach and don’t reapply spf. Otherwise, I could be out for a 2 hour long run and only minorly tan. If it’s hours of morning sun or sun during non-summer months, you are less likely to burn.

It’s not as good as going for a 20 minute walk or ride. Try spending 8 hours a day outside. It really helps with a lot of issues
