My tweet about Takaichi's English has really blown up, getting over a million views. I only tweeted about it and other lawmakers' English ability because I was asked to comment on a viral Japanese tweet that bashed other lawmakers and praised Takaichi. As I wrote in my original tweet, I don't think it's necessary for Japanese politicians to speak fluent English. It's not an important skill for a Prime Minister of a country that speaks Japanese.
A woman in a blue suit and necklace stands at a podium with a Japanese flag behind her, speaking into a microphone during an opening session titled Takaichi Sanae Economic Security Minister and Peter Martinez at the Secure World Foundation event. The screen shows text overlays including Cabinet Office and Secure World Foundation logos. A Japanese flag is visible on the right side.

I don't think it's necessary for a Japanese Prime Minister to speak English. Using interpreters in fine. Takaichi's English in this video is extremely unnatural and it looks like she's reading the speech off a teleprompter. It's painful to watch. x.com/gambare_shinzo…
