A comparison between 5 news aggregator platforms:

Reddit (2005)

  • + Most sophisticated infrastructure (obviously, because they existed since 2005 and have the largest user base).
  • + Reliable self-hosting for images (i.redd.it) and videos (v.redd.it).
  • + Flair search feature
  • + Crossposting feature
  • + Largest user base
  • + Most sub communities (_subreddits_).
  • + Tweet preview (new design only)
  • + Old design still optionally accessible
  • + i.reddit.com (lite version with )
  • + “” feature.
  • + Ability to post to one's own profile.
  • - Heavy censorship (all those features above are invalidated if one can't even use the platform properly.)
    • They even censor BitChute links by default (can apparently somehow be overriden somewhere in subreddit settings…)
  • - Corrupt power like
  • - AutoModerator aggressively suppresses new users (by karma points and/or account age) on many subreddits.
