What Is a Product Roadmap?
A roadmap is a simple document that answers three questions:
- What are we building?
- When are we building it?
- Why are we building it?
That’s it. Everything else is extra.
Why Roadmaps Matter
For you: Shows you can think ahead and organize work
For your team: Tells everyone what to work on next
For your boss: Proves you have a plan
For interviews: Demonstrates strategic thinking
The 3-Step Roadmap Process
Step 1: List Everything People Want
Write down every request you get:
- Customer complaints
- Sales team wishes
- Engineering suggestions
- Leadership priorities
- User feedback
Don’t organize yet. Just list everything.
