Two 🇨🇳 nationals have been arrested for flying a drone near Bardufoss Airport, a dual-use facility that also serves as one of Norway’s most important military hubs. The base is home to Royal Norwegian Air Force units and regularly hosts US Marines and other NATO forces during Arctic exercises. The pair were detained on Sep 30 after being found operating an unmanned aerial vehicle close to the airport, which shares runways and infrastructure with Bardufoss Air Station. The suspects were questioned and released, but their passports and electronic devices were seized. In a subsequent update, the section head of the investigation department in Midt-Troms, Katrine Grimnes, revealed that the police found the Chinese nationals had taken photos of objects “worthy of protection”. The police do not know whether they are tourists who were unaware, or were on a mission. Because of Bardufoss’s civilian-military role, any unauthorized drone activity there immediately raises security concerns. newsweek.com/chinese-arrest nrk.no/tromsogfinnmar nrk.no/tromsogfinnmar
