It seems the 4chan-X Chrome extension is permanently disable now. I tried running it via tampermonkey, but it kept crashing my chrome due to an apparent memory leak.

Is this it? Is this all we have until someone rewrites 4chan-X for Chrome MV3? Is this the best we can do?

Switch to brave. It's chromium based and also supports V2.
It's probably the only good option. I mean you could use Librewolf/Firefox but it is really lacking behind integrating stuff for the web and the latest privacy drama really fucked them up.

But the real answer is the BlockTube extension. The problem is that Firefox store won't approve the update for whatever reason, while the Chrome store approved it days ago. And without it, it's barely functional, as it hasn't been updated in 9 months. And sideloading from GitHub is a real pain on Firefox as you need a specific file format for it (.xml I think?)

I don't know about an individual script, but 4chan XT does have zoom on hover enabled by default. In fact, I had to disable it for the catalog as it was making it difficult to navigate. I should check if there's any way to enable it on key press.

There's also the option of installing an extension like Imagus of course.

so when you add "deterministic" stuff so everyones experience is similar, it's really interesting. then when you add third party authentication, or background data syncing scripts.
then your new website, ontop of the other website, can act like a whole new layer of hidden community.
you see this type of this on youtube with userscripts that show you a different video layer hidden underneath, that the public doesnt have the tool to decode it with.
i don't like that example itself, because it's used for porn, but the idea of a "secret" community layer, where those with the tool can recognize, interact, and share, separately. makes the tech cool

I've only ever had that issue with Dark Reader and only on certain boards, mainly /pol/. I'm not sure what's causing it though, but it gets fixed by changing the filter from dynamic to anything else.

If you're sure it's 4chan X related, try switching to XT. It's superior anyway.

Put them in the Sauce list. They'll show up when the filename of the image is an md5 hash. It doesn't do any secret magic to make it work on every image here, just the ones that have correct filenames. You're retarded.

I should read up on MD5 filtering. When I click to filter a post by Image MD5, that isn't filename dependent, is it? Regardless, it's very easy to bypass it seems.

it's just md5 hashing the image, so if it changes at all, like just changing the filetype or even just opening it in mspaint and adding a dot, the hash will change and it won't match your filter. mostly just good for people who spam the same images over long periods of time

Well I can't speak much to other communities' usage of it much as I am a g/fur frequenter myself but I do know at some point "animus" were a dedicated thing as a subcommunity, and a spinoff of that was Katawa Shoujou. If you want to make some community yourself, you can. Just gotta start spreading the word. But this would not be easy to do organically, it just sort of happens or it doesn't. You might get plenty of botnet replies and it's a bit of a meme amongst users of such types of scripts but it's just that, a meme. But to your point, if it seems like g/fur and s/fur is all you see, I can understand why you might think that's what it was designed for. It's not gatekept to only be for them if it makes sense.

I installed 4chan XT and get the same issue. the catalog lags with a message 'Refreshing index... (disable JSON Index if this takes too long)'
I can disable that in the options but then the script loses most of its features. any idea what's going on?

I have had that happen a few times, but it's rather rare and inconsistent, so I have no idea what's causing it. There are a few options related to using an external catalog, maybe tinker with those and see if it improves things.

There's a good reason not to merge, though. When they're separate scripts, you can enable and disable specific functionality more easily. If he were to merge them all together, enabling and disabling functionality would be an all or nothing ordeal which is not ideal.

Although to be quite honest, outside of certain people like WuMA (the most prominent of pony spammers who specifically went out of their way to piss off everyone sitewide by design in unrelated boards and threads), other than him the gfur, sfur, "thread about nothing" people, etc people actually remained in their own thread general day by day on /b/. The supposed "tracker" website's column labels "shitposts", "shittier posts", "pixies", "stalked", etc was just a funny maymay. Sure, it was considered by some a game that we were playing and in some aspects I can see their perspective but the truth of the matter is there was never, ever any consolidated effort to make the entire site shitty. We kept to our 1 (at a time) threads of whatever topic on /b/ and that was it. Image cap? New thread, crosslink and the cycle repeats. Never was there any cross-board raids or anything. Not even "accidental" ones. It wasn't a thing. Though the pony people were a bit more on the brazen side to make a point to ban evade on /b/ specifically, out of principle. Can't really speak on their behalf much. They were definitely on a whole other level for sure but even so they wanted to just stay on their thread.

By the way Seff was doing damage control to cover his ass, then he dipped out permanently since he """"""betrayed"""""" us but nobody actually gave a shit because this isn't real life and some of us touch grass every now and then. Back then it was srs bzns tho. Kind of funny though, lmao. He had the biggest target painted on his back and I don't blame him for doing whatever it took to stop the major shitstorm from continuing against him as some "Ringleader". So much misinfo though, it is funny.

Yeah, I know that's how it's supposed to work, but it's inconsistent. Most of the time, I don't even get the ads that it replaces (maybe regular uBlock blocks them). And when they do happen, it's not always a drastic resolution change. Maybe it has to do with bitrate or something, but it's not always really noticeable. And sometimes it becomes pic related.
