To boycott a democratic Jewish Israel is immoral and disgusting. Everyone agrees there should be a two state solution. The disagreements are over the easiest , safest ways to get there without undermining the Jewish state by ceding advantage to those who seek her destruction. It's certainly not paranoid to say that there are those who would like nothing better than to see Israel destroyed. Peace and a two state solution yes; but ,enable the haters No!

The problem with such a criticism is it breaks down as soon as a great scientist supports BDS. Surely better to debate the issues rather than the people. And worth bearing in mind how many other countries have a campaign of proposed academic boycotts against them. Israel is apparently the only country in the world that violates human rights.

The current list of signatories (now some 600 strong) includes senior academics from Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, SOAS, UCL, Kings, Imperial, Warwick, Birmingham, Nottingham, Queens Belfast, Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton, Manchester, Liverpool, York, Durham, Newcastle, Essex, Sussex, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, etc, etc. Perhaps Prof. Winston can tell us which are the 'major' universities he has in mind?
