Banned on Hinge

Been on hinge for a while and have always been pretty respectful and gone on a decent amount of dates. I recently was banned which was a shock to me because I’ve been pretty inactive as of late. The only instance I can think of is this girl I’ve been friends with in college matched with me a couple days ago as a joke and I responded by saying like “damn who’s that girl in your last picture”, referring to one of her friends I used to get with in college. I texted the girl and she said she unmatched with me and accidentally could’ve hit report -> not interested instead of unmatch -> not interested.

Just filed an appeal with hinge explaining the situation and that they could reach out to the girl if needed and/or I could provide them with screenshots of our text convo.

Do you think my appeal will be honored? How long does the appeal process take? Is the path of report -> not interested actually there?

ACCOUNT BACK ONLINE: I just got my account back.

I got an email immediately after my appeal saying it was denied. I then replied with the following: “I am very disappointed with this decision. There is a clear and obvious lack of regard for my case. I did not violate your terms. I have not messaged anybody in the app for a while except for the instance described in my appeal so it makes me believe my appeal was totally disregarded.

Moving to a new city within this past year, hinge has been a great way to meet new people. It’s disappointing that you’ve upheld your decision and show no morsel of recourse for this unreasonable suspension. “

I then filed a complaint with the BBB. I also sent Hinge a request for my person data.

I got an email today saying they couldn’t send me my personal data because it was deleted due to my account suspension (which is definitely bs).

Half an hour later I got an email saying my appeal was approved.

Update: appeal was denied. No further reasoning provided. Took about 3 hours for them to get back to me on the appeal

They don't give a shit, just a money making machine

Did you follow the dispute resolution process from section 15 of the Hinge terms? Or did you try to circumvent the process by appealing to tech support?

Tech support will automatically shut you down, because they’re not lawyers and they’re not qualified to interpret the terms or to form a legal opinion on whether your actions violated the terms. Allowing non-lawyers to make those types of judgments would be hugely risky for the Match Group.

If you want to appeal, follow the dispute resolution process that you contractually agreed to in the terms. That routes you to Match Group legal, which is actually equipped to handle appeals. Note that the process is pretty simple in the US, but can apparently be more complicated in other countries.

Your banned for life bro we should make a class action and sue them for all the burner phones we have to buy

You can't sue them via class action, because you voluntarily waived your right to class action when you signed up and accepted the terms.

You can attempt to sue them in small claims court, but you won't be awarded damages for the burner phones. When you sign up for Hinge and accept the terms, you represent that you have never been banned from Hinge or any other Match Group service. By making a false representation, you've effectively disqualified yourself from any receipt of damages.

These are the terms that you accepted when entering into a contract with Hinge. If you didn't like them, you shouldn't have entered into the contract. Sorry to sound negative about the whole situation, but there's a contract in place here. I'm just trying to provide realistic guidance. It seems like you're basing your position on a form of morality rather than legality.

That girl probably just reported you on purpose, then she lied about it because you confronted her with it directly. So Hinge won't change their decision if they think it was a legit report by her.

I just created a new account successfully on a burner phone. Now that I have done so am I able to redownload hinge on the banned phone and log into my account? (keep in mind I am going to factory reset the banned phone and log in with a different apple id)

I need some advice for this in the UK, happened to me last night!

Also, in case anyone cam help, just to give me a better idea of who it might have been, how quickly do Hinge ban someone following any reporting? And can it be from someone I met IRL (we haven't matched on Hinge) if she has my contact details? She's the only one I can think of!

Any help appreciated

Hey in my case I was banned within a day or two. I’d file an appeal and if you know who banned you and you know you didn’t violate the terms just make your make your case. I had the liberty of actually knowing and being friends with the person who banned me so it was much easier for me to explain my case, but worth giving the appeal a shot
