Why you don’t need to work hard, go to school & get a degree to be successful.

25 years ago I was mentored by some of the most wealthy and resourceful entrepreneurs in my state. Here’s what I learned from them.

When I was a kid I hated school.

I couldn’t imagine graduating from high school only to get a job and pay to do more of what I hated by going to college.

People used to always tell me ‘you’ve got to work hard, go to school and get a degree if you want to be successful’.

That formula was hammered into my head and for a long time I believed it.

After a few painful quarters of the local Community College, I decided it wasn’t worth it and resigned myself to never being successful.

A Stroke Of Luck

While I was still in high school, one of my friends asked me if I wanted to get a job washing dishes with him at the local Country Club where all the rich and wealthy people hung out.

I didn’t want to be a dishwasher and the only other job I qualified for was to be clearing tables as a bus boy, a small step up the ladder.

The thing I didn’t realize is that one job would change the course of my life in a way I never could have imagined.

Most of the people that worked for me as waiters/bartenders had a degree and were working for me to pay off student loans. Many of them couldn’t get a job with the degree they got or didn’t want to work in that field.
