All Republics become Monarchies over time, unless they are literally postage stamp micro states like San Marino.

The Enlightenment principles of divided government and franchise cannot function at scale. There are too many competing spheres of power, all with their own interests and innate tribal desires. Without a strong center for them too orbit, they just inevitably smash into each other until eventually one of the factions, through the weight of history, need to survive against and ultimately dominate its enemies, BECOMES by inevitable social force anchored too a single leader who then becomes the Monarch of the State if they prevail.

I'd love it if Trump went after sanctuary cities, but it seems to be legal hardpoints due to State interference. He should mine the border as that is more legally sustainable and dare California to secede from the Union if they don't like it.
