Police in Japan have arrested two
tourists — Gao Zhizhou (高志州) and Gong Xiuping (龚秀平) — on suspicion of making illegal applications to drive in Japan using fake
driving licenses. The two suspects are reportedly denying the allegations.
driving licenses can be used in Japan if an official Japanese translation is attached.
The 38-year-old and the 47-year-old
nationals are accused of making the illegal applications to the Japan Automobile Federation using fake Taiwanese driving licenses under their names.
Police said the two suspects obtained the fake Taiwanese licenses through a Chinese online shopping site. Police believe that one of them drove a rental car in Japan without a valid license.
Police also plan to obtain an arrest warrant for a 37-year-old
national suspected of placing ads on the online site that offered help with obtaining Taiwanese licenses. They will work with the International Criminal Police Organization, or ICPO, to place the person on an international wanted list.
