A 38DD is not a great sister size for you with your underbust measurements. It probably felt too large mostly because the band is huge on you by about 3 inches. If you put it on with the hooks in front and the cups hanging down your back, it would likely just fall down.
I would try your calculator recommended size, it should be pretty spot on.

Unfortunately the package with my calculated bra size got stolen! Ugh. So I am ordering another one to try on. Any suggestions on style? I am most likely ordering from Aerie again since they are still having okay sales.
