I studied at the School of East Asian Studies, University of Sheffield, and completed my MA and PhD in the Global Issues Program at Hitotsubashi University. I have served as a Junior Fellow at Hitotsubashi, held a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship, and lectured at the Research Institute for Japanese Studies, Kanda University of International Studies. I was also an Associate Fellow at the National Ainu Museum. I am currently Assistant Professor at the National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku).
My research examines modern and contemporary Ainu intellectual history.
My writings in Japanese have appeared in Shiso (Iwanami), Gendai Shiso (Seidosha), and Impaction; in English at The Asia-Pacific Journal and Japan Forum. I translated Richard Siddle’s Race, Resistance and the Ainu of Japan (Japanese edition, Iwanami, 2021) and co-edited Ainu minzoku hiteiron ni kō suru (Kawade Shobō Shinsha, 2015).
