People are taking it seriously, but here in Italy we know it’s only being proposed/backed to create the appearance that the government is doing something, when in reality it isn’t. It’s clear that the proposal will either be rejected, face backlash from the public, or be opposed by other member states.

Yeah, we had this, it was called Budapest Memorandum. It was a waste of time and paper.

The Yanks made the explicit point that they won't guarantee safety.
Just a "we may help you" not "we will put boots on the ground and beat the shit out of whoever dares to invade you"

And nukes. Huge waste of nukes. Even dumping them into recycle bin would be less wasteful

So why not send troops right now?

I mean, UK and France did actually declare war on Germany. Sure, it did not help, but they did not peace out after Poland fell at least, and it ended with a """"free"""" Poland in the end.

If USSR did not attack Poland too, they might have held on for much longer, and eventually France and UK would invade Germany and end the war.

If USSR didn't agree to attack before, then the attack would not have been carried out in that manner in first place.

Game was rigged from the start and Poland never had a chance to become more than a road bump.

Poland lost what, 25% of its population?

Honestly the only thing Russia, China and US showed is to never give up your nukes or get one asap if you are a small country next to a big neighbour.

Unless they can deter Russia all by themselves, Ukraine is fucked, essentially.

Next time, Russia will just pressure Belarus to invade, with Russian troops disguised in Belarusian military uniforms.

Last time I been to Belarus - we didn't really had a military.
It's mostly a place to "work" at.

    Sitzkrieg it is

24h to decide if they are going to do anything. Essentially useless as a guarantee.

It is rather strange to see Poland on the same side as Czechoslovakia in 1938, given some of the details of the partition of Czechoslovakia that took place.

One of my first HOI4 playthroughs as Poland, I thought "hey, let's make the Between the Seas alliance with all the small Central and Eastern European countries. Should be easy since they're caught between Stalin and Hitler and would want to pool their resources, right? I'll start with Czechoslovakia..."

    (2 years later)

...at least Lithuania stood by me as we fell to totalitarianism.

Yeah ok now build an army that can actually do it.

There is a difference that the EU borders Ukraine, while Poland and Czechoslovakia were separated from France by Germany.

Exactly, even today in the hypothetical that poland would give for example the Netherlands security guarantees against germany and germany would invade the Netherlands, it would also have to wait for poland to slug through entire Germany before actually coming to the rescue.
