Meta’s Smart Glasses, China’s Grip
Meta’s reliance on Goertek, its China supplier, shows there’s no such thing as “partial decoupling.” You can shift assembly to Vietnam, but the core components — and the leverage — still sit in Chinese hands. With these devices feeding into AI and defense applications, the risk isn’t theoretical. The only safeguard seems to be cutting Chinese suppliers out of the tech supply chain, full stop. Anything less leaves a backdoor wide open.
