What does the average VA session entail? Does it differ depending on the medium you work with?

Very much. The medium dictates how you approach the performance and the structure of the script. However, you can break it down in to narrative that is like a radio play or animation, exposition such as an announcement and lastly in game voice.

This final category is where you try make lines that could be played with other lines without a pre-determined order. You need to really trust your director with in game voice lines because the context isn’t clear by the script which is presented as stand alone lines in spreadsheet.
