Oh, hey.
Visa and Mastercard now say you can't pay for WoW. Magic the Gathering. FFXIV. DnD. Lord of the Rings. Because they're all "adult" content against their ToS just for being "fantasy".
Let that sink in.
Spread this like wildfire and have people in those circles call them. No quarter.
Woke up to quite the update on this. I had been in contact with Payment Cloud about getting their service and they waited until now to hit me with the image below. Again, stringing me along instead of being upfront. They had seen my website multiple times before this.

And if their excuse is "it's only for 'adult' content":
How do they define that? Simple battle scenes can make it fall in that field. Who sets the standards, and how easily can they move the goalpost?
That's one hell of a slippery slope.
It's just so frustrating to assume worst-case scenarios and jumping at shadows like this, because they're not clarifying ANYTHING. They just drop these "new" ToS whenever and we're left on our own trying to figure out what exactly do they mean??
When I heard fantasy this morning, I thought too many things like any media, books, products, which aren't about history and it's not accurate to their standards, are removed.
A grey world where the only thing allowed to be heard is "glory to the millionaire child abuser".
I hate this scenario.
UPDATE: Some people allegedly looked into the actual ToS for the paypros and the "Fantasy" part seems to be missing, so the statement might be a thing from this particular company despite what they told the original poster.
I'm waiting to see some more sleuthing, but please take that into account.
Honestly even if it isn’t in their official TOS we should still be calling them and letting them know their efforts to censor their customers are enabling other businesses to censor products they never intended to be censored.
This should still be a clarion call to renew the pushback.
Me when I purchase "adult content"
The "adult content" in question:

They also mentioned cat ears, so you can probably get a bunch of people from the anime community to join to, since characters with those are on crunchy roll and other anime streaming services
The etc on fantasy can be used to ban ANYTHING non real btw, it's not limited to medieval fantasy or something
I've been saying this on IG, and I grew up during part of round 1...
Cat ears... fucking cat ears?!
Is this just the F.U.R.R.I.E.S. act again?
yep. Pretty soon its going to essentially be illegal to represent yourself as anything other than your face.
How to destroy a banking company in three easy steps;
-Police what people buy.
-Get specific games banned on major distributors solely for being adult-oriented.
-Get anything to do with Fantasy banned.
Took me too long to realize that I was supposed to put in payment processing company, not banking company.
??? Do they just not want money at this point??? Like HUH????
Yes, that's exactly what these companies want. No money and to be the morality police.
From the looks of it to me, they are trying to erase furries. Good luck with that MasterCard and Visa....
Knowing furries, before that could ever happen some absolute mad furry would likely create a payment processing system in their basement held together with duct tape and sheer willpower
if a movie has a rating for Teens, how tf does it count as adult content? this makes no sense, you can just feel the stupidity from these idiots of payment processors, they should not care what i'm buying or paying for, they should PROCESS PAYMENTS and stfu
Pokemon.
I mean ... THE biggest media franchise AND super-safe family friendly all around.
And it got fairies on flowers and wrestling anthro cats - oh no!
Weird how they’re against fantasy stuff and yet they’re the ones who have lost touch with reality.
The irony is ringing in my ears.
the thing is it's not the card companies,, just paid my sub to wow with mastercard.
Chat Noir cosplays about to be on the black market 😬😂
So you need to use actual cash to get time cards for mmos and to buy physical media? Damn this age we’re in
If they are blocking fantasy then we shouldn't be able to purchase the bible js
"You must live and think in reality only!" The god-kings say.
Well fuck you. Reality sucks. The only good part of being in the real world is eventually I can escape it with fantasy related things >A>
ESO would fit on here too with the Khajiit. Typically a lil more than cat ears but one of the morphs definitely fits catgirls/boys. And there definitely are jokes that fly about their possible unusual equipment downstairs.
Probably not most of those because they are rated teens but yeah that is something!!?? also i guess rip everything furry OH FUCK SECOND LIFE
here im trying to take a break from sl so i guess that's good xD
WotC knew exactly what they were doing with the fancy version of Bloomburrow Liliana
I'm just a little confused on the link here.
The person was documenting their experience with PayKings. A high risk processor.
Are we basically taking the list of "high risk" items as what all general payment processors (VISA, etc.) view as high risk?
That's the thing, I'm just assuming a worst-case scenario because it's all so CONFUSING. They're not being upfront about anything, and their criteria is so nebulous.
No one has even come upfront to make an actual statement or clarification since this whole mess started months ago...
Regardless it's so OFFENSIVE just seeing that last bullet point.
Literally so broad.
FFXIV apparently needs to be not able to process payments with all their catgirls right? Lmao
Sorry guys, can't use PayPal to pay for your mobacoin in Granblue for those pick tickets. We got FAERIES.
This is just plain dumb. And a major fuck up if they think to target nerds.
I hope this backfires 100x more than it already has for them. :) This is ridiculous.
Fantasy (cat ears, fairies, etc)? That's a shit ton of media now a days.
All of a sudden, I can see the appeal behind the ending of Fight Club.
Maybe they're still angry about that and that's why the "fairy" rule is there, a useless stab at The Pixies?
If it is, then they absolutely deserve getting tag-teamed by Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.
This has got to be the worst two months of my life I swear to god
This is FUCKED. Wouldn’t this also mean they’re banning like 90% of streaming and movie content services like Disney+ and Netflix? Seeing a lot of animal ears and fairies over there too.
So...by that definition... The Muppets are adult content now?
That would see Zelda banned.
Let's see Nintendo sue them for that.
Wtf... Yeah, we can't go cashless as a society. Because it'll allow for totalitarian control. This right here, is proof of it. We fight to keep our system. Use your plastic less.
This is why we need physical cash and less international commerce. Buy domestic, buy with cash!
I just woke up, it's too early for the existential dread of payment processors just censoring everything
ive said it befor and i will say it again "WE NEED A HOLD PARENTS AND GARDIANS RESPONSABLE ACT/INISHIATIVE" this is the only other thing we can do to fight back.
outside of getting violent
I mean, I've called forth revolutions properly for years now. This should be the time to do so now since apparently other times weren't good enough beforehand...
i think the main problem is most ppl just dont have the time or enrgy to put into fighting anymore, ppl are over worked for less pay and dont want to deal with anything elce when they get home, and others feel like they cant do anything like anything they do wont mater...
becuas anytime they did vote for the better person or did try to help push things in the right direction nothing hapend. most ppl just want to live their lives. only time anything gets done anymore is when a travisty hapens a gay bar gets shot up and them ppl start paying atenchen...
for a month or too maybe even donate and talk to state reps, but at the end of the day we are all traind/ decensitized by memes and both news and social media becuas the only news that gets around efectivly is bad news,...
ppl arent as moved to get up and do anything anymore becuas they get bombarded by bad news no mater what type of media outlet they use
regular ppl outside of the art , kink ,vidiogame, and other comunitys wont start careing till their own freedoms and things they like are at risk.
this is pretty obviously about fantasy porn, not fantasy as a genre... idk why it being a target of "normie sfw fantasy" is being suggested, the wording is pretty clear that this is just to ban any 'abnormal sinful degenerate porn' as it were.
If say Pokemon has aspects of Fantasy. I wonder what Nintendo will think if they try to ban Pokemon.
huh, I just had my FF14 subscription go through, though that's my credit union doing that, and it's via Steam so....
Still, this is completely stupid. Outside of certain circumstances what is being paid for isn't their goddamn business.
By their own terms then, the Bible should be banned.
I feel a million class action lawsuits building
What I don't get is why are they after a T-rated MMO where you can be a race of cat and bunny people when IT SAYS T FOR TEEN ON THE BOX.
Honestly this thing in the quoted screenshot doesn't seem to apply to T stuff after the initial shock, only "adult".
But if they keep increasingly censoring things, couldn't they just... decide it's not T anymore, suddenly?
If they actually cut off the ability to pay for stuff like WoW and Magic the Gathering, that's fantastic news. That means that they're actively attacking Microsoft and Hasbro
dude they are coming for your FF.
Light the beacons
An online friend of mine had her own PayPal account banned as well just because she wanted to get Magic The Gathering cards on eBay. I found this post of yours out yesterday, and while she's not sure if it relates to her PayPal ban, I have to presume that it does in her case.
By that definition wouldn't like everything by Disney, owned by Disney, Nintendo, and every other huge corporation like that be blacklisted? Can we get them to turn on the banks and fight each other?
1: THAT IS FUCKING STUPID
2: By that logic, most children's media is considered adult now by Visa and Mastercard
What I wonder as well is, wasn't this whole thing supposedly stirred up by collective shout making X amount of calls or whatever to payment processors to get them to stop stuff like this? I can only imagine how many calls and emails they've gotten now, yet each day they just seem to double down more
You know I've been waiting for One Piece to end. Maybe it won't be worth it to live until then in all fairness.
This is so ridiculous. for people so committed to “freedom” the USA is sure into some nanny state shit.
Time to switch to crypto. Sure it's got a learning curve and escrow can be a problem, but that's the price you pay for not being under someone's thumb like this.
Just called. Pretended to be a share holder and fumbled a bit but w/e. I'm so fucking done at this point
Wonder if that also applies to Visa/Mastercard debit cards?
I mean they'd already technically banned the Christian Bible. Not that they'd actually block anyone from purchasing it, least they feel the wrath of all God fearing folk who started this.
But their dumb no-no list of reasons would absolutely block it from sale.
Just called and read the email out to them. First person disconnected without answering questions. Second one say through me dictating my latest email to them and listened to how harmful the impact is. Promised to flag my complaint for management to look at
Fantasy is ILLEGAL in the US?? Has anyone else received this email who can verify?
The “and/or” in that statement is doing some heavy lifting is your answer here.
Supremely heavy. LOL! "Fantasy is prohibited by V/MC" is just as ridiculous, IMO. Would love to see the full original email. And then pick apart all the ways something like that is virtually unenforceable.
MasterCard dropkicking me into the sun because they mistook me for a gnome.
They clearly aren't banning sales of fantasy. This mistake in an email without context just highlights a failure to communicate their rules. If you want to change the system, this really doesn't help.
Remember when crypto was used to buy illegal things? This will jump start a payment revolution and crypto may become useful once again.
Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm starting to see the benefit of crypto now 😅
Except it's not accepted in many countries and probably has the same stodgy conservative finance bros.
It might, but it also isn't causing this, and voting with our dollars sends a message.
Discover, AmEx... Where do you stand? I foresee a large drop in credit card business.
Large.
it probably means "fantasy themed explicit content", but it probably should be worded clearer
I swear at first it’s like the universe decided that now was the time to make making content aimed at adults
by adults harder and now it’s like the universe just decided to make making a living off being an artist as a whole more difficult than it already was….
Ooh Blizzard Activision gonna serve them some humble pie
Are there any payment processors to switch to though? My research is fruitless on my own since I am not very knowledgeable…
Also, don't forget Nintendo's new bullshit patent is doing the same thing.
It affects all games with Summoning/Pet classes like Summoners, Warlocks, Hunters, etc etc in MMOs.
Isn’t it great that we still live in this FREE country??? Hahahahahahahhaha
Wow... Visa/Master literally just killed a good quarter, if not more, of their business and are about to invoke one of the harshest internet beatings ever seen lol
I'm SORRY?? Cat ears and fairies are "illegal content"???
Banning "adult content" is stupid enough, but this is just baffling. And embarrassing. Like, what is even going on?
I mean, that's not what they said. They said "adult content." None of those things are age-gated. Now, an OnlyFans where you dress up as Legolas is.
Still abhorrent of them to do, but let's be accurate about what we target if we want our protests to be taken seriously.
Can anyone contact Discover card and tell them, "This is your time. Market yourself as the card system that will never peek at what you are purchasing. It's your money, Discover what you want."
Can’t really say I’m surprised at this point, but still this sounds like a huge slippery slope.
No Blood and Gore also means no Resident Evil. Just FWIW
humans are animals goddamnit
we can only make whatever "Adult Art" is of the fucking BACTERIA
Tbf if you actually look close, you can immediately see that the 'list' is blurrier than the rest of the text so it was def superimposed in. But regardless, censorship needs to be stopped.
those are all massive companies, hasbro alone would body slam visa against the floor and people's elbow it into submission lol
therein lies the hypocrisy, small creators get absolutely fucked, and massive companies get to do whatever they like
Feels like the satanic panic people pulling a federalist society style longgame rugpull.
we're gonna lose the entire internet atp if things keep going like this
One thing I don't get: if "adult" things are somehow bad, then how the fuck are adults supposed to pay for anything?
Problem is these terms will never be applied evenly. They aren't going to go after WotC or big book publishers that make romantasy novels because those companies can afford to fight it in court if paypros tried this.
Itch and Patreon can't or won't so everyone else is fucked.
That was my initial reaction too. Now that the dust is settling, it seems it only applies to "adult" content, and it /might/ actually be this 3rd party company tacking their own blacklist onto the paypros for some reason??
So confusing
Payment could is saying that not the card companies. Just used my mastercard to pay for my wow account.
Are these bozos for real? Since when has fictional content been "illegal in the US"?
And demanding people pay for high risk registration?
This is high way robbery, is waht it is.
Maybe it's time to switch gears a little. I'll be calling asking when they plan on enforcing their "rules" on Amazon for selling DVDs and BluRay copies of Game of Thrones which hits so many of these. If we can get Amazon to say this isn't right then it may be easier to make traction.
I will say, the part of the post clarifying the category of stuff you can't buy seems a little suspicious considering the text for what's prohibited is slightly blurry when compared to what's in the rest of the post.
Why is nobody talking about how next to "bestiality" it just says "(animals)" and doesn't specify sexual content involving animals? This means that all cute cat videos are now considered "adult content". This is ridiculous.
Paleontology is "adult content". Beef recipes are "adult content". Animal Crossing is "adult content". That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Did they not just passed a debanking law that makes them not do this?? i feel like visa and mastercard forgot that passed.
Eggbux. Your time was now
Anti Software Software Club, why did you have to fold...
They would have had all the same problems as everyone else they would still have been dealing with payment processors. Which was part of why they couldn't do it because Stripe never allowed websites to do this (without getting explicit permission from them).
Not a gamer nor a habitue of adult content — but one of these things is def NOT like the others.
I can't find any evidence that this is true. Do you have anything else to support this?
I suspect crypto (BTC / ETH) will become the new mode of buying games.
Either that, or games will move to a (terrible) free model like porn.
Oh, so basically nearly all content too?
Got it.
