I personally adore Eric Bogosian’s interviews because I, like so many of us of a certain age, had to grow up with actors discussing their queer roles where it was always how grueling and mentally draining it was to play these tragic stories out where horrific things happened to their characters and the struggles of doing the gay stuff. And now we’ve got a guy who is vibrating with excitement for any chance to talk in detail about how playing a gay role and doing gay stuff on screen is the coolest best most awesome thing to ever happen to him in his 7 decades of life. It’s just so joyfully refreshing. We didn’t use to have this kind of thing. And I’m so grateful for it now.

i watched willy’s wonderland last night.
if you haven’t seen it, it’s basically a parody of five nights at freddy’s that essentially has denied being actually officially being a parody, starring THE nicholas cage as the night janitor and main character working in a derelict animatronic restaurant closed after a series of horrific murders by a cult. it is actually PEAK.
- i have had the ‘it’s your birthday and we want you to have fun!’ song stuck in my head since i watched it. this song is very annoying.
- the silent protagonist approach was absolutely perfect
- world’s most autistic janitor vs bootlegged fnaf animatronics on 20/20 mode
- seriously like the janitor REALLY loves cleaning
- i was fully not expecting this movie to be a comedy and i was caught off guard in the first 15 minutes when nic cage kicked the shit out of ozzy the ostrich when it was trying to scare him and ripped out its spine before calmly cracking a soda. peak
- the serious plot of the teens trying to burn down willy’s and avenge the murdered kids mixed with the janitor’s cleaning and pinball playing montages?? had me in tears
- liv and kathy definitely had something REALLY homosexual going on with that handcuff scene
- i got confused when they introduced bobby and kathy as a couple because of this
- why on EARTH was siren sara so fucking scary?? genuinely why did they come up with the idea of a realistically proportioned human animatronic with a cartooned face. i got the uncanny valley chills right up the wazoo every time she appeared, jesus christ
- speaking of the animatronics i love how you can clearly tell sometimes they are just some Guy in a Suit when they need to do a big action moment, like the alligator running at nic cage in the Super Happy Fun Room (real name of a real place in the movie) (it’s where the murders happened). it was just so campy and perfect.
- nicholas cage strangles one of the robots with his own thighs. it was hot.
- the animatronics looked awful, which is incredibly realistic. i mean they looked just like actual chuck e. cheese animatronics. they were so ugly.
- at one point, the secondary protagonist Liv beats up an animatronic named Tito the Turtle with the butt of a shotgun and he screams and begs her to stop hitting him in the balls (in spanish. both the animatronic and liv are latino and he communicates very politely with her in spanish). this scene is easily one of the finest moments in cinematic history.
- cam the chameleon is a pick me girl
- the janitor was told at the beginning of the movie to take breaks while working and he follows this RELIGIOUSLY, setting a timer on his watch and going on a break the second it goes off
- yes, it does go off while he is fighting an animatronic, and yes, he does just leave.
- on his breaks he goes to the kitchen and cracks open his favorite brand of soda, chugs an entire can, then plays pinball while dancing to 80s music
- no animatronics ever attack him while this happens. it’s implied they understand the sanctity of a union-mandated five minute break
- the film says the restaurant opened in 1996 but then, in the ending scene, retcons its own lore in favor of saying it opened in 1984, which is really fucking close to 1983. snatching a bad fnaf reference out of the jaws of a logical plot progression
- also they probably realized they accidentally furnished the entire building with 80s stuff
- the soda the janitor drinks says ‘it’s like drinking a fistful of caffeine!’ on the can. he has a can of this approximately ten times throughout the film, which takes place over the course of ONE night.
- the final fight with willy is completely incomprehensible and takes place as a gritty art pop montage with confetti and flashing neon lights
- i thought willy was pretty ugly at the beginning but as the film went on i grew to see him as cute
- the janitor ends up unofficially adopting liv at the end of the movie and they drive off together after willy kills her evil cop guardian
