What will happen when the two black sheep of the Bat-Family start working together? Get ready for Red Hood like you've always wanted to see him.

Let me begin by saying that I fully support a writer’s right to interpret a character in their own way. I was aware, prior to reading, that some fans had criticized the author for allegedly not engaging with the character’s existing material. I made a point not to let that influence my own reading, as internet fan communities can often amplify criticism unfairly or take comments... Read More

I would like to preface this review by saying a) this is as spoiler free as possible, and b) my focus will lean heavily on Huntress, since she's the main reason I picked this up.
Now onto the review… And all I can say is… Wow. I do not say this lightly: this is probably one of the worst books I have read in recent memory.

Let's start with the writing, because that's where... Read More

Do you guys want me to be completely honest? It wasn't that bad. I expected far worse. However, I do agree with most of things you said: the characterization is odd. The writer said she hasn't read any Red Hood or Huntress before writing this, and genuienly, you can tell she wasn't lying. But I saw some positive aspects and other traits of this issue I would like to address to ju... Read More

Every aspect of this feels like everyone involved knew they were wasting their time. Reading it for sure feels like they did. It's stiff, lifeless, and the characters created by GFM and Spokes are actually more interesting than the main, titular character or even the bland clone of Helena Bertinelli. Royale had more of a personality for only existing to die than Helena does while... Read More

Let me preface this by saying this, Jason Todd is unfortunately my favorite DC character of all time. Why? Couldn't tell you. It’s so bad. There are no words in the English language or my own to verbalize how poorly written and paneled this is. Jason is painfully ooc, Helena is basically Gretchen’s self insert, the plot is bumbling, and the only positive is the background art of the set pieces.

cbtwt desperately wants to convince you this is bad but it genuinely just isn’t, lol. fairly decent writing similar to an old noir novel, dynamic and beautiful art with interesting colors, not enough here to say everyone is “out of character” (which, honestly, to them = “jason todd would never say this in my ao3 fanfiction” or whatever). there are worse jason todd books and most... I like to judge a story by its own merits and not the people writing it (my favorite character, Midnighter, was created by Warren Ellis, so… yeah), therefore here’s my impression of this issue:

This isn’t a comic it's a creative war crime. Red Hood #1 is so offensively incompetent it feels like an intentional act of vandalism against storytelling. Absolutely horrible. The characterization of Helena isn't even there, she's limited to just an ass shot and looking seductive, the issue opens up framing black people as violent cop killers, black people seem to be used as props, the writter is an absolute weirdo and it's already leaking into the work.

I’m enjoying this so far. The pacing is quick and consistent, with a new city and a new villain that keep things clear and straightforward. Gretchen’s callback to H2SH is noticeable, especially in the way Jason’s struggles there left him in a difficult place back in Gotham. There’s nothing groundbreaking about the story but it’s interesting nonetheless. Jason is only a little more emo than normal but who can blame him. I just hope Huntress doesn’t get treated horrible by the story.... Read More

Honestly, picked it up and had a good time with it, I like the more crime side of it all and was nice to have Red Hood as the main guy
I agree with everyone else though, just keep the first appearance costume of Red Hood, that was already perfect so we dont need to keep experimenting and seeing what costume would fit him better.
Otherwise I'd recommend it, just added an extra hal... Read More

Oh so yall are just REALLY transphobic huh? You’ve been raising such a stink over this book for months, and for what? The art was beautiful, the story was a little choppy but overall fine and inoffensive. There’s no reason for you to get worked up over this at all. Shame on you.
-
I feel bad for the artist who is clearly talented. This writer has no business in comics. Their Bluesky account has been deleted or banned(for good reason) but they are clearly a disturbed individual who needs help.
-
everyone had me expecting this to be terrible but like. it’s fine. jason’s characterisation was decent if not super specific, the art was good for the backgrounds/architecture and very… not good for the people, the mystery did hook me and i thought the action sequences were pretty good. i like the mood and the atmosphere. the absolute worst of it is the way poor helena was treate... Hate is overblown. It's literally fine, not groundbreaking but not worse than RHaTO2011 are you kidding? Waiting until further issues to form a full opinion since not a ton of note really happens here.
-
Not only did my boy lose all his swagger but he also seems to have lost all the development connected to the outlaw run for some reason
Dialogue written like an edgy teen's diary Bffr
I really wanted this to be good, Jason is my second favourite DC character(after arsenal, DC make a solo arsenal run and my life is yours) and I hate to see that his new book is ass. I hope they tur... Read More

never have written a review before, all I need to say is this was the worst thing I have ever read in my entire life. I feel bad for anyone who is a Red Hood fan, this feels like it could butcher his entire character for years. Did the person who wrote this even read anything about him?
-
I’m from Louisiana I’m telling to you the dialog in this comic is almost offensive, you don’t have to drop, “cher” every five words to portray a nawlins accent smh. So much potential with this character and his fresh start please do better…
-
I really liked the art. It's a shame we don't see more of this artist drawing RH. I mean, Jason's design gets criticized a lot, but I liked it. The haircut is funny, but hey, I think it's better for the design to leave a bitter taste in your mouth than for it to leave absolutely no taste at all.
About the writing. There wasn't writing. Big meh to me.
I don't know much about what... Read More

I'm on the fence...
I'm a recent Red Hood fan catching up on older material. This first issue felt like the creative team threw a bunch of different ideas on a whiteboard and then just put them on paper. I'm going to pick up issue two out of respect for the character, though Huntress felt forced into the story.
-
Wanted to go into this with the highest hopes I could have considering all the discourse I had heard on how ass this would be. And yeah it was major ass. The writhing was strange and the paneling stranger. I hate this look for red hood but I wanted to look past that as much as I could and hope at least the story was good and it was fine I’m interested to see what happens but I do... Read More

Ding ding ding we have a winner for: MOST GENERIC COMIC EVER WRITTEN 😭
-
Giving this a five star even though it isn’t to offset you whiny fucking freaks. Get off Twitter!
-
gee guys bet it feels good to review bomb a trans woman. i would never know
-
comic so ass they cancelled the run and refunded comic shops for this first issue.
holy guacamole, batman!
(no kidding tho, the actual reason for the cancelation is fvcked up and would not happen to a cisgender male writer) -
mid at best but not awful. and maybe im just new here but if a character gets "mischaracterized" for like, a decade, maybe and just maybe that's how he truly is and people refuse to acknowledge it
-
The art was actually pretty decent, I mean the suit is still shite but besides that solid art. The writing however is not good, why is Jason’s inner monologue so bland and blunt. He does know how to string conversation. It was aight I guess. Only joking, Jarvis pass me a beer!
-
This is not bad whatsoever, but it’s also not especially good.
Ignoring the writer herself and how’s she’s an awful person, she had mentioned off-handedly that she had not read anything revoking Jason nor Helena and that shows very much. This run very more focuses better as a piece of independent comic material, rather than something that is attached to others.
the art is great,... Read More

Unspectacular in it's suckage, which might be the worst thing this could be. I was hoping to see a bigger swing, even if I hated it, and it's not even that.
-
No spoilers! Might I say the art style fit the story perfectly. I’m hooked so that’s good. If you go into it with the mindset you don’t like Redhood just skip this then. Besides that I had a blast.
-
A decent #1, introduces us to Red Hood and the Huntress, and this threat of The Tower. Art is pretty good, but I did get a little lost during some of the action sequences that were shown in multiple, page-wide, but very short panels. Interested to see how this plays out.
Ignore the review bombing and read it for yourself, it’s fine.
-
Sometimes I think to myself 'Hey I wonder what's going on in mainline comics'. Then some trash book like this brings me back to my senses. Awful writing, monotonous art, everyone has the same face.
My bank account thanks you again DC.
-
The issue is good. I like the plot of The New City. Although, Jason's characterization is somewhat strange, and Helena still doesn't convince me. It's a good start. It's solid.
-
It was fine guys. I might be biased because I much prefer a more villainous Red Hood, but this was still written well enough to be able to lead into good things in the future.
I will say that while the art is fantastic, the panel layout makes me want to vomit. Almost every panel is so wide and zoomed in so you can barely tell what's happening.
-
Not a whole lot that grabbed me here, honestly. I’ve always been intrigued by this character and was happy to see an ongoing I could try but the characters were all pretty boring and none of the setup really intrigued me in any way. Also, marketing this as a mature title and doing very little to differentiate it from a normal title was an odd choice.
-
Honestly? It’s not bad if you don’t remove Jason’s character from the past. Given, there’s some potential but the writer admitting that she hasn’t read any comics with Jason in it can be good or bad moving forward.
It has a nice crime drama feel to it, similar to the early days of Detective Comics. I think there’s something here, I just don’t know what yet.
-
Jason has had some of the worst arcs in the past 20 years of my time reading comics. This isn't that bad, comparatively. Do I wish it was better? Absolutely. But this is literally a character that is more interesting via fanon and imagination than reality, and just a missed opportunity.
-
Not as bad as people made it out to be, this feels like a regular issue #1. Jason definitely feels like an angsty teen, huntress feel a bit random for this story and The art is good. I’m interested to see Jason in a detective role.
-
Solid first issue. Never delve deep into Red Hood or Huntress so this series could be up my alley . Will be picking up future issues
-
I actually enjoyed this very much and deals with what happened in hush 2 I thought Jason’s voice in this was pretty normal and find all the hate online to be hyperbole The art is great sort of noir in a way I really like it
-
Tbh? The story feels okay but it doesn't feel like a Red Hood or Huntress story. It feels like they just put OCs over established characters (despite Jason being ran through the mud over the years) just to sell this run.
-
The hot saliva subplot was goated as hell man you can tell this is a mature readers series
-
balancing out the review bombs. my actual opinion is 2.5
-
Nowhere near as bad as most people are saying. Sure there’s some imperfect dialogue, but it’s a solid comic that succeeded in both catching my interest and setting up the next issues.
-
honestly? not as offensive as people are saying, it’s a first issue so there’s not much to go off of. the art is fine, even good at times, the character design is less than ideal in my mind. the writing was just a little bland to me at times. probably won’t pick up the next issue
-
I'm not even jumping on the hate train with this but please get Gretchen off Red Hood.
-
Guys let’s be honest, this comic is not that bad. The writing could be a lot worse and I want to read another issue. GFM is a controversial person to some, but I think she did a solid job with this issue.
-
jason is 2/2 for bad series this year it's rough out here for jason fans
also the character design is really ugly sorry
-
I really enjoyed it! I think the story has a great start and it left me wanting to see what happens next the art is awesome a noir feel and i love the Jim Lee variant I got
-
People giving 2 stars or lower are probably lying or didn't really read it. It's actually pretty good. Maybe 3.5/5.
-
-
It felt very surface level. I was interested in the case Jason was working, but the characters did feel very surface level, like the voice didn't fully reach. I like the new city, but the issue overall feels strained by the current batman run.
-
Nothing burger issue. Please just give my boy a good run
-
read it, put it down, bought something else. besides character design, the art style for the city is cool.
-
Absolute insane mischarectarization for both jason and helena. Never understood why theyd ship theme tg it js makes everything weird
-
-
Horrible issue, free Helena from Jason Todd, this author and this story
-
quite a simple read, but not engaging or interesting enough to grab my attention, i would say i’d be interested in reading more to see if the story picks up but i believe the rest of the issues got cancelled..so yeah
-
I haven't read mine yet,But dam all the negatives about this writer,Ya'll gonna drive the sales of this book! Maybe this is just what she wanted!
-
Not good and very boring the art is fine nothing amazing but the writer is the worst.
-
Two words: "wet saliva"
I cannot fathom how DC continues to fail to do something good with this character
-
I haven't read this yet; I read of bad reviews. But I am really excited to read this. I know I'm going to like it.
-
i hope it gets fucking cancelled bc what the hell was that
Edit: it really got cancelled 🙏
-
-
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this first single issue, not a big deal if you don't fall for internet fandom discourse bullshit
-
I give up on Jason Todd fans there truly is no pleasing them. Every thing made with him in it is “out of character” where that phrase has been used so much with him that I don’t even think he has one anymore. The book however was a silly edgy pulpy fun time.
-
-
Look it’s wasn’t as bad as everyone is making it out to be look I’m not saying it’s perfect no but it has a good chance at developing into something it’s definitely a growing one not a hit out of the park on the first go
-
Ok it’s really not that bad, it’s not without its problems but I think we just need to give it time.
Also, just… just bring back the helmet… please.
-
-
Now THIS is a number one! I was left wanting with last weeks with Batman but holy cow this delivered in blood covered spades! The Jim Lee varient cover goes hard!
-
Well, now that the run is confirmed over, the best parts about this comic are the following: 1. Jason uses guns again. 2. The art by Jeff Spokes 3. The variant cover by Jim Lee
-
This is pretty in character, this is like the emotional version of jason in the three jokers, It's fine , I don't know why every one's freaking out.
-
Such good visual design all around. New Angelique seems like a really fresh setting. Humans are complicated and aggressive, overzealous inquisitioning is creepy and dishonest.
-
if you had handed this to me and blacked out the cover and all the credits, I could probably be convinced this was written by Jason Aaron.
-
-
Honestly I didn't hate this, did I love it no, but I did enjoy reading it, which looking at the review score not a lot of you did which I can understand there wasn't a lot there but I dunno, I kinda like it, I didn't hate it
-
-
Well, that's it. With the news of this book being now cancelled, I can't say I am terribly sad. Not because this was a bad comic, but mostly because it was a continuation to H2SH and the less we talk about that, the better.
-
First issue is fine. Still don't know why Helena is hanging around in New Angelique...
-
Not bad, reviews thought itd be a bad first issue. Worth my $5 and 5 stars
-
-
This review contains spoilers. Proceed at your own risk.

This comic book was sexy and yall are ignorant. BLOOP *fly away in my roflcopter*
-
I had a very very low bar for this book and because of that it was above my expectations. Still not that good tho.
-
i figured this was a good way to start with rh comics but im second guessing it /: lemme go check some rh guide/reading order and then i'll come back to this
-
ay pues equis la verdad, si estan raritas la conversaciones pero esperaba algo mas cringe lol
-
-
It’s fine. I am intrigued by the last page, at least.
-
-
My boy is shooting people again. Good for him. Not a fan of the art style, but might turn out interesting.
-
-
All I’m going to say is that Helena calling me “Boy Wonder” would do things to me I couldn’t hide.
-
-
-
Gonna be honest... NOT a horrible start? I've read worse admittedly.
