UVU College of Science & Health Mission Statement The College of Science and Health fully subscribes to the Utah Valley University Mission and Values with their emphases on teaching, student success, and engagement with the local and global communities. The College is comprised of nine departments: Biology, Chemistry, Community Health, Dental Hygiene, Earth Science, Physical Education and Recreation, Mathematics, Nursing, and Physics. The programs offered by these departments grant bachelor and associate degrees and provide a wide variety of courses to support degrees offered by other programs within the University. The Department of Nursing offers a Master's Degree in Nursing Education. The College of Science and Health is committed to providing courses and programs to meet community needs for major and professional education, service courses for majors outside the College, general and transfer education, skill development, personal enhancement and career enhancement. The faculty of the College are committed to providing an atmosphere which encourages innovation and opportunities for students and faculty to attain their personal and professional goals. Recognizing students as the priority and focus of the College, College faculty are committed to providing high quality learning experiences in an environment in which students can actively participate in learning, raise questions about assumptions, and develop a scholarly approach to the sciences and health professions. All programs in the College emphasize critical thinking and lifelong learning. The faculty of the College of Science and Health are committed to Development of courses and programs that provide students with the knowledge base required to continue into graduate studies or to enter a profession. Delivery of high quality courses and programs using teaching methodologies that stimulate learning. Maintenance of faculty expertise in their disciplines and in teaching methods. Identification and counseling of students who are "at risk." The use of classroom assessments to determine student progress and course or program evaluation. Providing students with a clear explanation of course prerequisites and requirements for successful completion of courses. Each department within the College has established a mission statement, philosophy and objectives which guide the curriculum, student activities and faculty activities.

School of Education

Over the past ten years, the School of Education at Utah Valley University has grown from 30 students in early childhood and elementary education to near 750 students in early childhood, elementary education and secondary education. There are currently fourteen content areas in secondary education with additional areas being developed. The performance of UVU students after graduation has received positive feedback from district teachers and administrators. UVU teacher candidates are heavily recruited by service area districts and may receive contracts before graduation has been completed. During spring semester 2008, the UVU teacher education program received national accreditation from the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). UVU was the first institution in the Utah System of Higher Education to receive TEAC accreditation. With university status the School of Education will be starting the first masters degree at UVU in August of 2008. It will be a Masters of Education designed to increase the instructional skill in the areas of instructional models and English as a Second Language. Education is an exciting profession filled with opportunities. If you like to work with young people, this may be a perfect place for you. College of Health and Public Service

The first school of public services in the Utah System of Higher Education has been created at Utah Valley University. The School of Public Services, recently approved by the Utah State Board of Regents, will be housed in UVU's College of Technology & Computing.

School of the Arts

Music, dance, visual arts, and theater performance provide peak human experiences for every generation. Evidence of arts civilizing influences defines the progress of humankind since the dawn of time. Each of us has felt that influence listening to a mesmerizing symphony, gazing at a glorious painting or sculpture, watching a breathtaking ballet, or laughing and crying our way through a play. Art defines us as human; it joins us to each other, connects us with past cultures and peoples, and links us to future generations. A rich and inclusive UVU artistic education opens doors to a meaningful and worthwhile university education. The School of the Arts teaches students how to provide and appreciate artistic experiences. Our faculty offers students opportunities to extend and deepen their artistic training; to refine performing skills and abilities; and to broaden artistic literacy campus-wide. The School has approximately 1,500 majors in various artistic disciplines and over 20,000 students from across campus attend one or more arts-related general education courses each year. We offer Bachelor degrees in 13 artistic disciplines and Associate degrees in four. I came to the campus this summer as Interim Dean. I am amazed and deeply gratified by the serious work of the Schools faculty and students. This year our School has opened a new theater facility (The Noorda) with special emphasis on childrens dramatic arts; we will offer symphonic, chamber, vocal, and contemporary musical performances; ballet, modern, and ballroom dance experiences; painting, drawing, graphic, and photographic exhibitions, in addition to teaching hundreds of courses in these varied artistic disciplines. I invite you, whether student or audience member, to enjoy these experiences. Learn from the civilizing influences of art at UVU. Let them enrich your life and the lives of those around you. Woodbury School of Business

It is a great honor and privilege to welcome you to the Woodbury School of Business (WSB) at Utah Valley University (UVU). There is no better time to be a student at UVU than now. We are going through some exciting changes as we emerge as Utah's newest university. The business programs recently had the distinction of being accredited by AACSB International, which is the largest and most prestigious accrediting body for business programs across the world. Less than one-third of the business programs in the United States and only about fifteen percent of the business programs in the world hold this accreditation. The Woodbury School of Business is growing by leaps and bounds, thanks to the generosity of community businesses, alumni and donors. We are indeed grateful to the Woodbury family and their generous gift of $20 million. Their gift and the gifts of others will help ensure the future growth of the business programs. We are pleased to be accepting applications for the Master of Business Administration program. We will begin the first cohort of MBA graduate students in fall 2010. The new MBA program reflects the university's commitment to engaged learning as our students will take an active part in community development projects as a part of their capstone course. Students will also become engaged in all aspects of management, including accounting, leadership, marketing, economics, ethics, and social responsibility.
