Austin driver charged with intoxication manslaughter after Labor Day crash that killed passenger

Austin police arrested a driver Sept. 1 for manslaughter after a Labor Day crash left her passenger dead.

Officers responded around 9:46 p.m. to a two-vehicle wreck in the 5200 block of East Ben White Boulevard, according to police. A passenger, Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, Sonia Edith Ramos, was arrested that night.

Ramos was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. Her bond was set at $25,000, and she has since been released from jail, court record show. 

The fatal accident is Austin’s 71st of the year, leaving 75 people dead.
