Especially when the ad is full of mixed race families or Whites kissing niggers asses.
Of course. They make money from it, which is legitimate, as long as the advertisements don't harass the user.
I let my kids watch JewTube through the smart TV app and some commercials are over an hour long for ten minute videos. I have to regularly unhide the controller and skip them. It's ridiculous.
toss the "smart tv" in the trash!
What's weird, and I speak of online ads - which I do sometimes see, is that the ads are pretty much never anything I would purchase.
They're collecting tons of data about me. I'm such a reprobate that I am logged in and using Google's personalized search. I use my real name all over the 'net. I am logged into all sorts of sites - and using my real information.
In other words, they know all about me... Or, they should...
What do they do? They offer me stuff like a Nissan Altima and then try to advertise it to me as it being so advanced that it drives itself. How the fuck did they conclude I'd ever want a vehicle to drive me? It's PRETTY clear that I love driving.
I bought a messenger bag. I own several but this one was a really, really nice one made of leather. For the next 12 months, they tried to sell me that same exact bag, from that same exact vendor who happens to be the same exact company that made it.
It goes on...
The closest they've really come was when they tried to sell me barn doors. Yes, it'd appear you can buy barn doors over the internet. I had no idea - but I also already have doors on my barns. Who, exactly, is in the market for barn doors purchased over the internet? Anyone with a barn old enough to use a new door almost certainly doesn't actually have standardized door openings or even some sort of standard hinging equipment.
I've had ads to 'beginner guitar.' I don't think I need to elaborate.
I'd buy their stuff, 'cause I like buying stuff. But, they never seem to offer me anything I want. How the hell do they not know? I've given them ALL of my information.
Wanna sell me something? Sell me Wigwam socks in bulk. Sell me a programmable ECU. Sell me a laptop that's better than the one I'm using. Sell me a car that uses more dead dinosaurs than were killed by the asteroid. Sell me a new KA-BAR to replace the one I gave away. Sell me some P-Zero tires.
But no... They'll give me ads for cholesterol medication and MLM schemes, cars that I don't want, and stuff I already own.
Which phone browser are you using?
I use Firefox mobile, and I've got uBlock Origin on it. It's rare that I see ads on videos.
I've been using the Brave browser for a year. I like it, It's fast, blocks ads & trackers and seems to be easy on battery consumption.
I use Chrome and S Browser, because Firefox Mobile really likes to crash and has a buggy URL bar that changes to the previous URL or search term as soon as tapped, which is annoying.
Firefox Mobile also tends to slow down with too many tabs open, even on good devices.
Also, Chrome Mobile allows Javascript bookmarklets and saving pages as MHTML.
S Browser is limited to 50 tabs, but very fast and functional. It is also based on Chrome.
Also, YouTube ads are still acceptable. But those on Dailymotion are not.
But I use Firefox and occasionally Waterfox on Desktop.
Advertisers don't advertise to the people they are not looking for it.
They advertise to the people who are currently looking for it.
Indeed.
But Dailymotion interrupted my viewing experience every 5 minutes by showing me the same thing repeatedly, which is really annoying.
You don't get to pick though, that's not how it works.
The ad gets in your head because of repetition, so you just remember it. As I was typing that out I literally thought "December to remember sales event" because of some ad from a decade ago.
You can consciously rage against the company, but you'll probably subconsciously remember it for the rest of your life.
Ads are poison. If you can't get rid of them then consider the value of the thing you're getting in exchange for them.
How the hell are online ads, especially personalized advertising, still a thing in 2019?
Obviously, many people use the Internet.
Therefore online advertising can indeed be effective.
But if it harasses the user, it goes too far.
Side note:
I actually whitelist pages I encounter that show acceptable advertisements.
Pages such as:
- Poal.co (in case they use ads in future)
- Search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Qwant, Ask)
- YouTube (mostly)
- Mainly text-based social media websites (e.g. Twitter, even Reddit)
- StackExchange network pages
- Quora
…currently have acceptable advertisements, because they all have one thing in common:
They don't temporarily soft-lock the user (block the screen / the content) for long, or at all. They just stand there by the side.
But Dailymotion's advertisements are currently not acceptable, because they add unskippable 40-second breaks per 5 minutes, often showing the same thing.
you might not, but what about the stupid people out there?
i haven't seen ads in one or two years, ive always used adblock
