The UK government's new online safety act has gone too far. My mate is 26 and has an xbox. To get an invite and play with friends online he has to provide his ID. Yet he can still make purchases of games and play current over 18 games and use his xbox. With the information Microsoft has about you, it doesn't take an investigator to tell if your over the age of 18. But why would you need that anyway to send an party invite?

Yeah, I'll accept these rules if the corporations are made legally (fiscally) responsible for keeping my ID private. If they leak my information to the world, they at least need to pay me what it will cost me to repair any damages that might incur. replaced credit cards, etc. And if they leak a billion IDs, multiply that times a billion. https://9apps.ooo/

Totally agree it's overkill. If you're already verified to buy and play 18+ games, needing to prove your age again just to send an invite makes no sense. Feels like they’re solving a problem that didn’t exist.

How many hundreds of leaks are a result of companies not giving anything about data protection? Now we're expecting a future where every single website wants us to upload our sensitive ID info just to post or whatever. How can our lawmakers learn absolutely nothing from the information age?
