Facilitator Yvan Verougstraete (Les Engagés) has proposed forming a seven-party coalition in Brussels, after weeks of discussions to break the deadlock to form a new regional Brussels Government.

The proposal would bring together MR, PS, and Les Engagés on the French-speaking side, and Groen, Vooruit, Open VLD, and CD&V on the Flemish side.

Under the plan, MR would give up a Secretary of State position to CD&V, while PS would fill its Secretary of State role with a French-speaking candidate from the civil community with an economic background.

Additionally, Flemish nationalists N-VA would participate as an observer in the Joint Community Commission.

Verougstraete, who is also an MEP, presented his proposal during a press conference following two weeks of bilateral talks with the various parties.

He expressed hope that formator David Leisterh (MR) would be able to convene the seven parties for discussions on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The leader of Les Engagés stated that MR agrees with the proposal. While the other parties have been informed, PS and Open VLD have neither explicitly rejected nor accepted the plan yet.

Verougstraete believes Open VLD may agree to stop pushing for N-VA to be part of the regional government, as his proposal assigns the Flemish liberals a ministerial role.
