Belgium experienced its driest spring and summer period since 1921, with only 184.4 mm of rain falling between 1 March and 31 August.

This is according to the seasonal report published Monday by the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI). The average for this period is 399.8 mm.

In Uccle, the summer of 2025 saw just 35 days of precipitation, compared to the usual 42.6 days, with a total rainfall of 130 mm – far below the average of 234.2 mm.

The RMI noted that, based on all recorded observations since 1833, the summer of 2025 ranked as the 15th driest on record.

It was also an unusually warm summer, with an average temperature of 19.3°C, significantly above the norm of 17.9°C. This made it the fourth hottest summer since measurements began in 1833.

There were 38 summer days (temperatures over 25°C), well above the average of 23.9 days, and nine very hot days (over 30°C), exceeding the usual five. Two heatwaves were recorded: one from 28 June to 2 July and another from 10 to 15 August.

The highest temperature of the summer, 38.3°C, was recorded on 2 July in Diepenbeek, while the lowest, 0.6°C, was observed on 25 August in Elsenborn.

August was particularly dry, with only 17.8 mm of rainfall compared to the average of 86.5 mm. The month’s average temperature stood at 19.3°C, above the typical 18.4°C.

All three summer months were sunnier than usual, with 707 hours of sunshine recorded across the season, far exceeding the average of 594 hours and 56 minutes.
