Archive.today is great, but is ran by literally one dude in Czechia. He could get hit by a bus tomorrow and the project is gone.

[–]alcalde 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I think under that circumstance it becomes the bus driver's responsibility.

What is this? The Santa Clause?

[–]alcalde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY.

and thus your statement may be construed to represent an admission of responsibility in case of the other commenter's death, however it does not necessarily guarantee such responsibility. talk with your lawyer for more details.

NOTE: THIS STATEMENT IS NOT TO BE TAKEN AS A CONFIRMATION OF ANY RESPONSIBILITY IN CASES OF INJURY OR DEATH, AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS EVIDENCE OF SUCH RESPONSIBILITY.

Listen, if it comes down to me, I'm not going to be very good at it, but if its like the 'Santa Clause' starring the still currently alive but largely disliked, Tim Allen, then I believe he got all the shit he needed to do the job upon the death of the previous Clause avatar occupant. I guess that means I have to move to Czechia? As of Nov 2024, that isn't potentially the worst case scenario if you're an American.

I guess the bus driver hit the guy, because the website isn't working anymore. It's completely offline on all domains, and there aren't any updates on the Tumblr blog.

not sure... who controls archive.today? I just went there and it pulled me to archive.ph..? PH is Philippines , I dont trust them to do anything better than archive.org who I do trust much more than a ph site.

archive.today has multiple domains and it randomly transfers you to whichwever one. They own archive.today (which is their main name), then they have archive.ph, archive.li, archive.vn, and a couple others i cant remember but they have all sorts of domains and their owner is anonymous but every domain name is registered under a "Denis Petrov" which is sort of an east European version of john doe. Like a sort of example name. I'm pretty sure it was a project for his university but then they turned it into a full site for everybody. It's not nearly as big as web.archive.org but it's the best free alternative imo and most functional and searchable.

Archive.org is very dodgy - look into its ownership - Israeli ties.
I've seen too many examples where its owners blocked scans from being accessible, after being paid to do so by interested parties.

    [–]GrayPsyche 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hello. I got curious and googled, but I found no results regarding the Israeli ties you mentioned. Where did you get this from, if I may ask? I also don't trust Israel so it would be nice to find something of substance.

    [–]RefrigeratorAny7327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    im curious now.

    [–]TTEH3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nonsense. A hacker group targeted the site randomly and then invented a "we're doing it for Palestine!" motive after the fact, which some people unfortunately fell for and began inventing stories about the Internet Archive being an Israeli project (it isn't).

Quick question, though, how is AT = IA, or am I using it incorrectly? 1) It doesn't seem to save outlinks, which can be exceedingly useful if there is more than one page on the topic, and 2) it regularly will not save an entire page. I had this happen everyday that I've used it, including today. On the same day that I try to archive a page (including today) and it won't save the entire page, it will also sometimes save an entire page.

    1) Is there a way to have it archive outlink related pages, and

    2) Does anyone else have this issue with it saving full pages?

    [–]calm_center 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about archive today is you have to save each page individually if you’re receiving an entire website with multiple pages it’s much faster to use the wayback machine. So if you want to make sure all the links on the page are saved, you have to go to each link and save it individually. This could be too much work if the website has hundreds of pages.

use webcitation.org, it's more powerful than these short term websites

    [–]didyousayboop 1 point2 points  (1 child)

WebCite stopped accepting new URLs in 2019 and apparently has also experienced over 18 months of continuous downtime within the past 5 years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebCite

The Wayback Machine (web.archive.org) and perma.cc (run by Harvard) are the two best alternatives to archive.today.

Your link has been archived with archive.today.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

and it looks like Archive.today is dead

      [–]DotPuzzleheaded5284 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      why?

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      who knows.

      [–]Full_Philosopher8510 0 points1 point  (4 children)

That site got banned in my country Italy.

      [–]WaterFalse9092 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      why is it blocked?

      [–]Full_Philosopher8510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      For CP distribution allegedly

      [–]ScaryStrawberry5639 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      Then use Tor Browser? 🤔

      [–]Full_Philosopher8510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are mirrors that didn't get banned. I don't want to use that site anymore though.

This is what I use. And it has Archive Today built in as one of the choices.

I saved more than 3000 pages on the Archive today, unlike with the archive org that only lets saving 5 websites and locks you. I saved more than 100 pages on 1 hour or less on archive today.
