Xueer Shang (尚雪儿) was disqualified by the UTMB for taking a different route between checkpoints 5 and 6 of the TDS (la Trace des Ducs de Savoie ultramarathon covering 152-153km with a total elevation gain of 9000m+ between Courmayeur and Chamonix https://montblanc.utmb.world/races/TDS), which she finished 3rd in.
The UTMB officially stated that it’s a “route error” — apparently a euphemism for cheating. The TDS started from Courmayeur, Italy at 11:50pm Mon Aug 25 . Between the Chavannes Pass (Checkpoint 5; 20.5km) and the Petit Saint-Bernard Pass (Checkpoint 6; 35.9km), a ~15.5km section with a 515m elevation gain, something strange happened: not only did Shang overtake 251 runners and jump to 131st from 382nd, but she also took only 1 hour and 27 minutes to cover this section — while the fastest male runner took 1 hour and 42 minutes. Some observers suspect that Shang had got into a car to complete 6km at the 29th km of the race — although this is unverified at this stage.
Elise Delannoy is now third in the TDS 2025 ranking whereas Shang is “unranked”.
