Hobbycraft has announced the exact dates when six of its stores will permanently close, with the first one shutting down as early as next week. The arts and crafts retailer on the high street is set to close its Wigan branch on September 4, followed by the Maidenhead and Chichester branches, which will shut their doors on September 18.

Hobbycraft's Crayford store will cease operations on September 20, King's Lynn on September 22, and finally, the Stafford store will close on September 28.

Each of these stores has initiated discounts of up to 50% off in a bid to clear stock, with this discount increasing to 70% as the closure dates draw nearer.

These closures are part of a previously announced restructuring plan by Modella Capital, the private equity firm that owns Hobbycraft.

This plan has already resulted in the closure of 12 other Hobbycraft stores, reports the Mirror.

The company stated that this shake-up aims to secure the future of at least 99 stores and 1,800 jobs across the business.

Currently, Hobbycraft operates 110 stores across the UK.

Alex Wilson, Hobbycraft's chief executive, said: "While it's always tough to say goodbye to some of our stores – and this is always a last resort – we believe these changes will set us up for an even brighter future.

"We're investing in our online business, exploring exciting new ways to reach customers such as Hobbycraft TV, and remain committed to inspiring creativity across the UK.

"Making these changes now is a necessary step to ensure we can keep our doors open to hobbyists and crafters up and down the country for years to come."
