>>106107It's a cringe-filled tryhard angsty teenage soap opera drama (containing actual faggotry as in homosexuality) that tries to make itself look like it's more than it really is, that's more presentation and style over meaningful substance, and it's the usual "babby's first anime" - attracting animebabbys who've never seen anime before, or only seen Pokemon or something like that or some generic nuanime, and once they see NGE just because it was so different to anything else they'd seen before they get totally blown away and think "omfg i've now seen the greatest thing ever in existence! nothing can top this! this is insane! i'm sooo amaaaazed! this is SO deep and SO adult!" not realizing they were like little children tricked by all the superficial aspects of the show (the presentation, music, its equivalent of technobabble, overusage of pseudoreligious imagery – stylistic things like that used to trick the viewer into thinking the anime is more sophisticated than it is).
And its fans partly due to that are childishly annoying. And they usually – and this is one of the worst aspects of the NGE fanbase – get stuck on NGE, fail to move on from it: that initial impression of theirs that with NGE they've "seen the greatest thing ever made and nothing can top it", for many NGE fans they remain hypnotized in that manner and don't move on. And the reason for that impression of theirs is rooted in their lack of perspective; anything else they saw prior to NGE was some basic kids stuff like Pokemon or (now more commonly) some atrociously bad nuanime slop, or just western cartoons, so they think "yep this is it, this is the best thing ever" and get stuck on NGE. Some of them do eventually move on, however.
What also contributes to the fans being cancerous is many of them saw NGE when they were 10-13 years or so (and many of them still are teenagers) and identify with the cringe loser Shinji and have in a childish manner "fallen in love" with Rei or Asuka because he interacts with them, thinking "wow shinji is literally me" etc, which is all disgustingly stupid and faggy. Contrast those aspects of the NGE fans against other animes fanbases like Hellsing just as an example, it's a night and day difference; being a fan of the badass Alucard and Seras, vs being a fan of Shinji and Rei/Asuka. Or Cowboy Bebop or Great Teacher Onizuka or Trigun etc; almost anything that's not some faggy nuanime slop. NGE fans are some of the most absurdly childish and faggy ones, in a uniquely disgusting manner, largely due to the childish angsty cringey characters of NGE.
