Raycast: A No-Nonsense Guide to the MacOS Super App
I love how a Macbook feels in my hands. But the software often gets in the way. Window management is clunky, the spaces is a half baked product with slow navigation, the split between the menu bar and app settings (Command ⌘ + ,) is confusing and so on. I’ve tried countless apps to fix these issues. I even wrote about those annoyances once and listed apps to solve the problem. Raycast was on that list.
Raycast is more than a Spotlight replacement. Spotlight lets you search, launch apps, and do quick tasks with Command ⌘ + Space. Raycast takes that idea and supercharges it. It’s so great that Apple is now redesigning Spotlight to catch up. Which I will write about once I try the final version. But before that happens, here are the best Raycast features I use every single day.
- App Launcher: At its core, Raycast can launch apps. If that’s all you need, Spotlight is enough. The difference is in how Raycast learns. It uses frecency sorting, so the apps you open most appear instantly. Spotlight doesn’t do that.
