An injured sea turtle receives care in the veterinary hospital at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center. The sea turtle was removed from her hospital tank, placed on a stretcher and safely strapped in, then carefully moved a few feet over to the hospital for care. Many sea turtles become sick from water pollutants or are injured from ingesting plastic bags and fishing line. Don’t worry that she’s out of her tank - sea turtles can breathe just fine out of water. One of my first stops in India was to the Dharavi slum in Mumbai. Dharavi is home to nearly gone million people who live in an area the size of Central Park and was created in the late 1800s when the British expelled Indians from the nicer areas of Mumbai (Bombay). It is divided into a Hindu side and Muslim side. Many of the homes lack plumbing so residents share public toilets. These photos show it from above when I was at the metro, and also the teachers preparing the school - which is just one classroom located on the second floor of a building where students must climb up a step ladder to attend their class. Even with such difficulties students are happy to go to school and Dharavi residents work within their community to make and sell a variety of goods. They are also quite active in recycling plastics and metals. Several nonprofits work in Dharavi to support the residents with healthcare and education. Dharavi's residents may be poor but they work hard and are proud of their tight-knight community. #indialove #dharavi #maharastra #mumbai
