With the door closing behind him, you went after him, none of the others following the pair of you out of the booth. You called after him, asking him to slow down but he kept walking until he came outside. Logan stepped out from under the awning before quickly retreating when he felt the cold rain hit his face. You panted lightly as your hand held onto his shoulder in an attempt to stop him leaving.
“Lo, what was that about? Why’d you run off?” You asked. For a moment, he didn’t answer, the patterning of the rain and cars driving in the night being the only sounds around you. Logan turned to you, his face a cross between uncertainty and anger.
“Why the hell did you have to pick that song?” He grumbled. You raised an eyebrow.
“It… Was the first one that came up. It’s a good duet song.” You explained, not wanting to give him the real reason. Whether it was the continuing tensions between you two or the confidant surge from alcohol you weren’t too sure. Maybe both? But part of you wanted to use that song to confess your feelings to him. Cheesy? Absolutely. Corny as all hell really now you thought about it.

Shunsui pursed his lips, a frown crossing his features. Large hairy arms encircled your waist, pulling your back flush against his bare chest.
“You’re ignoring the Head Captain’s orders, hmm?” He said in a low voice. Somehow, even after years of marriage, that voice had still sent shivers down your spine. Shunsui’s lips pressed a gentle kiss to the shell of your ear. Each action gradually pulled your thoughts from the mess inside your head and began honing on his presence. His body heat, the weight of his arms against your stomach, the smell of cheap sake and sandalwood that wafted from him. It was alluring, all consuming. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to stop and join him… You put the pen and paper down.
“It… Would be rude to refuse the Head Captain.” You mused as your body involuntarily leant against his. “It certainly would be. Come to bed, petal.” He replied. His arms unfurled from around you before he stood up. You turned, following him diligently as you clutched his hand. You hadn’t realised he was fully naked before but the glow of the moonlight and the fading candlelight illuminated each muscle. The moment you entered your bedroom, a weight fell from your shoulders. Some unconscious burden you didn’t realise you were holding. The mere presence of Shunsui and the bed eased you. He crawled into bed, covering his lower half with a blanket as you undressed. His eyes never left your form. Usually, Shunsui’s dark eyes would fill with lust as you would peel away each piece of clothing. But tonight, there was no lust. Simply adoration. The kind you’d see from someone gazing at a statue of an ancient goddess in a museum. You noticed though Shunsui’s adoration was underlined with worry. You soon joined Shunsui under the bed sheets, naked skin caressing naked skin. His sturdy hands brought your body flush to his and began caressing the curve of your spine. Your hands rested against his broad chest as you absentmindedly stroked patterns across his chest hair. Legs entangled as the thought of sleep settled in your aching muscles.

Steam swirled from your coffee mug as the aroma surrounded you. Peaceful mornings like this in the mansion were rare. But getting up earlier than everyone else certainly helped. It felt like fate sometimes that you were at the mansion, a recruit of the X-Men. Years ago, Charles Xavier had heard whisperings of someone with metal manipulation powers in town. It was him, Storm and Gambit that arrived at the bar the night they heard an almost riotous commotion was taking place. He was prepared to stand against an old enemy. But instead they found you. A young woman, manipulating knives, forks and bar stools to protect yourself against a group of rowdy FOH members. Naturally, Charles invited you to the mansion, to become a member of the X-Men. Even with intense training, your powers were not near the level of the self-proclaimed “Master of Magnetism”. But, unlike what you’d heard about him, you were able to almost liquidate the metal objects in your will. On top of it all, kind, patient and, more importantly, believed in the cause the X-Men fought for. Word count: 576Flickering through your piles of mail was the least exciting part of your day when you had any. Bill, random take out flyer, local cleaning service, all the same. Except the little envelope right at the back. Your address was neatly written on the front and the stamp was almost perfectly placed in the upper right. The back was empty, no indication to the sender. Then you smelt it. A faint, unmistakable cologne. You knew only one person who wore cologne that smells of cinnamon and cloves. Steven Grant, your boyfriend. He’d sent you something, how sweet! Your sofa creaked as you sat down before hurriedly opening the envelope. Inside was a simple greeting card. The front was from the British Museum, where he worked, depicting a painting of a frog in an Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh which made you giggle. Opening the card made small things fall out onto your lap. A number of small polaroid style photos, a small sweet in the wrapping paper and a piece of paper. The polaroids were of you and Steven, smiling into the camera at various museum spots. One was even a photo of just you from the side, staring adoringly at a statue of the goddess Isis. Your smile only grew as the fond memories of your museum hopping date around London came flooding to your mind. It was only last week but with your job and his, it kept you both apart. You’re here now, that’s all that matters.” Shunsui sighed, ever the calm and collected one. Even with holes pierced through his shoulder and stomach. You had been called onto the battlefield by Shunsui himself. Being a prominent member of Squad 4’s 1st relief team meant you were the perfect person to sneak into the Wahr Welt to heal the newly appointed Head Captain and his lieutenant. Your hands shook as you used your spiritual pressure to heal his gaping wounds. Slowly the holes stitched closed before your very eyes. Every second this war between the Soul Reapers and the Quincies kept going was another second you were worrying about Shunsui. He’d battled Lille Barro and needed to heal before continuing onwards. You had been running round, healing wounds left right and centre without a break. But it was only now did the fear really rest in your chest. Seeing Shunsui, slumped against a wall looking exhausted beyond comprehension, it broke your heart. A calloused hand brushed a strand of hair from your face before cupping your cheek.
“Marry me. Once this damn war is over, be my wife.” He spoke determinedly. Your concentration faltered for a brief moment as your eyes met his. At first, your mouth moved without sound coming out. You were too shocked to process his declaration. Shunsui Kyoraku… The infamous ladies man who flirts with any gorgeous woman… Wanted to marry you? A smile and a half laugh left your lips as you focused back onto healing his wounds.
“You couldn’t have waited until this was all over? You don’t even have a ring, you old bastard.” You mumble affectionately, which caused Shunsui to chuckle.
“I’ll get you whatever ring you want, my dear. We can even go to the living world if you prefer.” Shunsui replied. You smiled more, your heart about to burst with love and adoration.
“You know my answer. It will always be yes.” You said with a faltering voice. The overwhelming emotions bubbled to the surface as your hands kept shaking. His smile grew as his hands took yours for a moment. Groaning, he moved closer, wrapping his arms around you. His large frame covered yours as if he was a protective shield. Warmth and the subtle scent of iron and his cologne enveloped you as your arms wrapped around his waist.
“I love you.” You whispered before pulling away.
“I love you too.” He whispered back. As you pulled away, his hand plucked the blue hairpin from his hair tie, pining it to your robes. “A makeshift ring to tie you over.” Your fingers brushed against the cool metal, mouth hung open.
“Shunsui I… I can’t accept this. It was your brother’s!” You protested before his hand gripped yours, planting several kisses to the knuckles.
“I trust you’ll keep it safe until we can finally be married.”
Those were his last words to you. With a kiss once he had recovered and whispers of being safe, he rushed back into the battlefield. But without his initial knowledge, you had reached back to the Squad 4 barracks. Everyone noticed your giddiness and excitement amongst the fear and heartbreak of war. You were beyond elated to marry Shunsui. But it wasn’t long lived. An off-shoot of Lille Barro invaded, wiping you out with just one blast into a wall. Your breathing was shallow and wheezing, your heart rate slowing. In your final moments, you felt the cool metal of the hair pin, feeling Shunsui’s presence one last time. A smile crossed your lips for the last time. It was after the battle had ended, Shunsui’s next mission was clear: locate you. He knew you’d be back in the Squad 4 barracks, probably rushed off your feet and exhausted from being an incredible healer. It was only when Isane, the now appointed Captain of Squad 4, approached him that he knew something happened to you. “Where’s my soon to be wife, Isane?” He asked softly, a hint of trepidation in his voice. Her lip quivered slightly.
“She… Was your fiancé, Head Captain?” She repeated, Isane’s voice shaking.
“I asked her to marry me once we won. Now, where is she?” Shunsui insisted. Isane shook her head.
“I’m sorry, Head Captain.” She held out her hand, his brother’s hairpin resting in her palm. His calloused fingers took the hairpin, a frown crossing his face. Though he didn’t show it, his heart was breaking.
