It’s always been political…about LGBT rights. Groups of oppressed people don’t compete with each other to silence each other.

Today was an absolute train wreck and downright embarrassing. I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a parade next year. What’s the point at this rate? Every year some fringe extremist group is going to cancel it.

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29951 point19 hours ago

you seem the smartest here...can you explain to me why gays need to march?

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29950 points19 hours ago

i'm sorry.. why LGBTGAWHTNXK needs to march?

[−]BackgroundOil2410-2 points18 hours ago

because theyre so oppressed, they need to shove it in everyones faces, lol

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29950 points18 hours ago

lol there not even oppressed tho!..like nobody cares! its safe to be gay trans whatever! nobody gives a fuck. why do they do this shit lmao

[−]BackgroundOil24100 points18 hours ago

lmao, i know, but now its like a trend, something you do to show youre part of the big club, and you bring your kids along to watch grown men in g strings parading to show youre a true liberal and youre really open minded, its really cringe but its what our society has become. And if you criticize it, well good luck finding a job anywhere except if its cleaning gay peoples toilets or something.

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29952 points18 hours ago

i pray this shit is just a phase... like %50+ of trans people commit suicide!? like..am i dumb!? or is that not a fucking red flag that its a fad!?

I don't think Pride has ever been about canceling Pride tho. That's not 'political', that's self-destruction.

[−]Candysmack6 points19 hours ago

A lot of organizations, sponsors and local businesses sure did cancel their Pride participation and money last year tho

Because normal people draw the line at collective punishment.

Q4P didn’t cancel pride. They cancelled a corporate circus that hijacked our community.

[−]AshleyAshes198439 points19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

They cancelled a corporate circus disguised as pride that hijacked our community.

Here's the unpleasant reality: LGBT people need that corporate rainbow circus. You see it in America right now as corporations retreat from LGBT support and donations, pulling back both money and LGBT representations in their advertisements and products.

TwoYou need two dads sitting at a family breakfast in a freakin' Pop Tarts commercial and everything else, because you live in a god damned capitalist hellscape and the best way to survive and navigate that capitalist hellscape is to have corporations saying 'Hell yeah, trans people need TD Investment Banking services as much as everybody else does'.

Trying to end 'rainbow capitalism' without ending the rest of the entire capitalist hellscape is just leaving yourself naked and exposed while the rest of the unchanged system runs a steam roller over you. Every time a corpo drops contributions and representations of LGBT stuff, homophobes claim another victory, and lately their list of victories has been growing. Now you're just rooting for them.

If your movement ends the very nanosecond corporations feel it's no longer convenient to like you then it was probably never a popular movement to begin with.

Worst part is that it offers no introspective into why people dislike Pride stuff, I can give you a myriad of reasons, but it's always dismissed as homophobia, fascism, etc. So why even bother? What's worse is that you teach these corporations that they can stab you in the back as many times as they want because you'll always be back celebrating along with them after they change their logo into a rainbow logo.

Oh… honey… please read what you just wrote, even you yourself admitted that these corporations are going to throw us to the curb on a whim the second we become unpopular… those are the same institutions you want us to stay silent while they hijack our community and police what we say and don’t say? No thank you.

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29950 points19 hours ago
[−]Objective-Fox-139429 points19 hours ago

Q4P is a loud minority holding the majority hostage, undermining the very community they are supposed to actually support. Shame on them.

Nope. Completely false and misguided.

[−]nogr8mischief20 points19 hours ago

The only people hijacking anything are the ones trying to hijack Pride in the name of a different cause.

You mean the politicians and the businesses hijacking pride for their profits? Yup sounds about right

[−]BackgroundOil2410-8 points19 hours ago

You don’t see straight people throwing parades to celebrate their sexuality—especially not in front of kids. And yet, Pride events are everywhere, often framed as harmless fun or “inclusion,” when in reality they’ve always been political. That’s not a critique—it’s a fact.

What’s wild is that simply questioning this practice can cost you your job, get you doxxed, or turn you into a social outcast. We’ve gone from “love is love” to “agree or be branded a fascist.” LGBTQ+ used to be about living a marginal lifestyle with openness and tolerance. Now it feels like an ideology you’re required to adopt—or else.

I’m not here to hate. I’m here to point out the shift: from personal freedom to enforced conformity. Pride isn’t just a celebration—it’s a litmus test. And if you don’t pass, you’re out.

Beyond the surface of inclusion, Pride also functions as a symbolic affirmation of the broader neoliberal agenda—one that champions radical individualism, mass migration, and the erosion of traditional national identity. It aligns perfectly with what economic elites want: a fragmented society where identity replaces solidarity, and where the nation-state is weakened in favor of globalized free-market capitalism. When every person is reduced to a consumer and every lifestyle becomes a brand, Pride stops being about liberation and starts being about compliance with a system that thrives on division and perpetual market expansion.

Im not reading this tripe. If your message is so important why'd you need chatgpt to write it for you?

"That's not just you -- ThatsThat's chatgpt trying to be you."

[−]BackgroundOil24100 points18 hours ago

hell nah thats me, hey im ready to debate if you have any arguments about my great points about your ideology/religion

[−]BackgroundOil24100 points18 hours ago

chat gpt is woke AF it would never write that... thats all me...

[−]jbnow89 (deleted by user)6 points19 hours ago

I'd say it's most likely that in a year from now there will be no pride parade at all, and Gaza will be occupied by Israel.

The attention seeking, virtue signaling protesters really achieved nothing at all today. Perhaps if they go protest at the next Monster Truck show they'll learn a valuable lesson about who their allies really are.

Then again, the protesters today wouldn't have the balls to do something truly meaningful ;)

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29950 points19 hours ago

^ this is the correct post

With that genius logic, what’s the point of any demonstrations? You’re so smart!!

If ANY other groups did this, it would be considered a hate crime.

[−]Real-Victory7725 points8 hours ago

Most of the protestors I saw were Caucasian Canadians.

actually in my queer spaces everyone is in support of this counter protest and the parade getting shut down. you’re allowed to stay out of issues you don’t understand. anyone who is an actual ally to the queer community understands that our oppression is interconnected and wouldn’t have walked in the parade anyway because who gives a fuck about a parade, especially one that doesn’t support our most marginalized. you can continue crying because you didn’t get to show your individual support, one day a year, when you probably don’t do anything else to support queer folks or you can read a history book!

Pride has never been about bending the knee to Islamists

[−][deleted]1 point19 hours ago

[removed too quickly to be archived]

[−]BackgroundOil2410-4 points19 hours ago

right its about getting on your knees for other men

[−]Oregontacoshed14 points19 hours ago

If you hate the LGBTQ so much, why do you live here and not in Lebanon?

[−]BackgroundOil24101 point19 hours ago

wow, exactly what im talking about. lmao, did i say i hated gays? you people are all for inclusivity except when people disagree with you and fyi im canadian born and raise and proud...

[−]Oregontacoshed3 points19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Don't make snarky comments like that and I won't make accurate analysis based on it.

Pride is not about bending the knee to people who want to hijack a genocide to push an anti western valuedvalue agenda.

There's a reason these people always target pride parades

[−]BackgroundOil24100 points19 hours ago

wdym people always target pride, people always target liberals because you people are naive, same people who vote for mass migration now complaining about it, FAFO. I dont care about either, and being a degenarate is not a western value

[−]Oregontacoshed5 points19 hours ago

My friend, you wouldn't be a Canadian born citizen without the same migration you're rallying against.

And there it is, the "degenerate" term, you're finally being honest. Please explain in detail, your opinions on this supposed "degeneracy"

[−]BackgroundOil2410-1 points19 hours ago

i already did, celebrating your sexuality in front of kids is degenerate behavior, i dont go in front of children celebrating the fact i like to have sex with women....

thats a strawman... keep deluding yourself until they reach a critical mass and they get to impose their will, you deserve it...

and also i dont know how living in lebanon would change anything since there is a strong lgbtq community there also with bars and clubs and all that, so yeah, im not trying to move to another country im trying to make canada better by getting back to the values that made us great...

[−]Oregontacoshed8 points19 hours ago

All that exists in the parts that Hezbollah doesn't control

[−]BackgroundOil24101 point19 hours ago

ridiculous, there gays everywhere, just because they dont parade around naked in front of kids doesnt mean theyre not gays.

Yikes the amount of rainbow loving Islamaphobes in these threads are terrifying! For a group that preaches inclusivity and love, they sure do display an extreme amount of hate.

[−]Forsaken-Repeat2995-6 points19 hours ago

based. i'm sick of all these "i want special treatment" losers.
i don't care who you love or prefer to have sex with! i literally doesn't affect me at all.

look..i don't have an "i love pussy" parade...and ask yourself why that is...maybe because it would be seen as extremely inappropriate.

now look at you guys.. you have weird sex identity/political identity in fighting!

you guys burn your own kingdom:)

People like you are exactly why we need pride parades, and shouldn't allow them to be hijacked by other causes.

[−]Forsaken-Repeat29951 point18 hours ago

but why exactly do you need do march? i;ve been asking that question and nobody gives me an answer..always just some vague shit.

  1. I’m sad Pride was cancelled

  2. I’m happy people are thinking and talking about the genocide in Palestine

[−]BackgroundOil2410-1 points18 hours ago

wow you said all the right things, you deserve a medal!

[−]TheVelocityRa-20 points11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

The Parade was cancelled but Pride still went on. The street fair was very busy Sunday afternoon and the programming still went on.continued

[−]hoverbeaver26 points11 hours ago

This is textbook gaslighting.

A huge number of people who had been baking in the sun for two hours packed up and went home. The “everyone had fun, nothing bad happened” rewriting of events being attempted is disingenuous at best.

[−]TheVelocityRa-14 points10 hours ago

Where did I say any of that? Seriously you just put a thing in quotes and it looks nothing like I said.

Were you even there? I was, both at the parade and the fair, I waited in the sun too. Yet the only people rerewriting the events on people on reddit who pretend the only thing that happened this weekend was a parade and that anyone who talks about anything else is wrong for doing so.

[−]hoverbeaver17 points10 hours ago

Stop minimizing this. You know exactly what is being discussed here.

“Capital Pride” is not real pride. Capital Pride is a co-opted, corporate, government approved version of pride in the most milquetoast liberal way possible. Whatever version of LGBT “support” Capital Pride claims to offer, it is has so throughly sanitized any meaning of solidarity, justice, and liberation from it that it cannot be relied upon. Fuck capital Pride, power to grassroots pride, to Wild Pride, to the unsanctioned marches and to the queers and transsexuals that DON’T show up to garbage like this because Capital Pride does not represent them.

[−]FriendshipOk622312 points6 hours ago

Queers for Palestine doesn’t represent the community either and did a great job silencing the 174 groups behind them, many of them were community organizations and non-profit

[−]MetaliiiisLife1 point6 hours ago

Do you display your hatred for Muslims everyday of the year or does it only come out on parade day?

lol I guess now if you don’t support every single action taken by the pro-Palestinian you automatically hate muslim 🙄. Good luck continuing isolating yourself

Preaaaach 👏 👏 👏

These people complaining are sooo ignorant about what’s going on they have no clue.

[−]WhatEvil-38 points19 hours ago

Standing up for Gaza is fighting the same forces that are coming for LGBTQ+ rights.

This is one fight. Stand together in solidarity with marginalized people or get out of the way.

[−]nogr8mischief41 points19 hours ago

A Pride parade is not a parade for every marginalized group. It is a celebration of and protest for queer rights. Period. It should never be hijacked, subjugated by, or held hostage by another group advocating a different cause, no matter how worthy. Queers for Palestine could have marched in the Parade and brought attention to a very valid cause. Instead, they harmed queer folks. Shame on them.

[−]Tour_True-18 points11 hours ago

You probably aren't part of our communities nor participate in them. Please don't assume what they are about if you don't.

[−][deleted]1 pointan hour ago

[removed too quickly to be archived]

[−]WhatEvil-23 points19 hours ago

Capital Pride was pressured not to support Palestine in return for corporate sponsorship and support from the Mayor, and they capitulated. Perfectly reasonable for people within the queer community to object to that. If you want to blame anyone, you can blame the corporations and the mayor.

[−]nogr8mischief32 points19 hours ago

I'll be blaming the people that physically blocked the parade, thanks. They're the ones that harmed queer folks today, not the mayor who was going to march in the parade or the corporations that helped to make it happen.

[−]Tour_True-6 points11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I'll blame people like you tbh who go one marginalized group and not the other. Definitely aren't part of our queer communities and would be frowned on by our queer communities. I would also blame the city and co-ordination on events.

[−]nogr8mischief16 points10 hours ago

Could you stop your hateful attacks on my queerness, please? You dont get to decide who is queer based on how it lines up with your worldview. I've had enough of your bullying. Im defending the queer community and our pride parade, while you're supporting depriving the queer community of our protest and our celebration.
