I went into Sons of the Forest thinking it was a survival game. Turns out it’s also a horror game, a comedy, and an exercise in bad decision-making.

The first hour? Chopping trees, building a little camp, befriending Kelvin (best AI buddy ever). The second hour? Realizing Kelvin cut down the tree holding up my house. The rest of my time? Wandering through creepy caves, screaming at every noise, and accidentally eating something poisonous.

The game is gorgeous. The forest feels alive, the lighting is stunning, and every sound makes you paranoid. The crafting is deep, the survival mechanics are engaging, and the mutants… well, let’s just say they don’t respect personal space.

After 6 hours, my conclusion is: It’s beautiful, it’s terrifying, and I will 100% die here again.

I rotted on Sons last night for 4 hours for the first time alone. I played a few hours with a friend last week with no prior knowledge and it was hilarious.. but let me say I AM OBSESSED. Kelvin and I be tearing it up!! Survival is one of my favorite genres of games and I can honestly say this really makes you feel like you just out there but you're given enough tools to start to get it all going. Im excited to play more tonight cause I wanna make more stuff and camp out fighting cannibals lmao

10/10 – Survived the forest… barely. Would get terrorized by mutant cannibals again.

Sons of the Forest is like that one camping trip you never signed up for—except instead of marshmallows and s’mores, you get bloodthirsty mutants, creepy underground lairs, and a constant existential crisis about why you ever thought leaving civilization was a good idea.

This game takes survival horror and cranks it up to eleven, then throws you into a nightmare where every rustle in the bushes makes you question your life choices. Pro tip: don’t trust anything that smiles. Seriously. Not even the trees.

The crafting system is so deep, I spent more time building traps than running from freaky forest dwellers. The AI is so smart it’s basically a nature documentary directed by Stephen King. I’ve screamed more times here than at every horror movie combined—and I love it.

If you like your horror with a side of “holy crap, run!”, some surprisingly heartfelt moments, and the thrill of “Did I just punch a mutant in the face or my own sanity?”, then Sons of the Forest is your dream nightmare.

In conclusion: This game will steal your sleep, your calm, and maybe your soul. But hey, at least you’ll have a killer story to tell. 12/10, would get hunted by mutant cannibals and still come back for more.

Sons of the Forest is an incredibly enjoyable and immersive experience that doesn't hold your hand, making the survival mechanics feel genuinely organic—like you're truly stranded in the wilderness. For multiplayer enthusiasts, I strongly suggest playing with friends, as discovering and mastering the game together as a "tribe" significantly enhances the fun and engagement.

Single-player mode also offers a deeply rewarding experience, capable of capturing your attention and making time disappear in the best possible way. Exploration and discovery are central to this game's charm; if you love venturing into the unknown and experimenting, this game is definitely for you.

Graphically, the game is remarkably well-optimized, providing smooth performance even at high visual settings. My only real criticism is that, in multiplayer mode, there seems to be no way to save your progress, resulting in having to restart each time. Despite this drawback, Sons of the Forest remains highly recommended for its immersive survival gameplay and exceptional exploration.

I liked the game play and I like the adventure, but this game had the worst ending of all time. SOOOO anticlimactic. It almost ruins the whole game honestly.

Hosting a dedicated server to keep the trolls away

The server is hard survival and the idea is people can join and help to make our city which gets attacked. Servers name is survivor city, search that on filters on dedicated to find it

Sons of the Forest takes everything terrifying about The Forest and cranks it up to eleven. The woods feel alive in a way that’s equal parts beautiful and horrifying—shadows move where they shouldn’t, strange sounds echo through the trees, and every cabin might hide something you don’t want to meet. It’s tense, immersive, and occasionally makes you question why you thought camping was a good idea. A frighteningly good sequel that honors its predecessor while standing on its own—definitely leave the lights on.

Oh, what a game. Where should I start?

Sons of the Forest is an improvement and next step in the previous game's Survival Horror-esque game. From firearms, new weapons, new enemies, and more simpler comforts like a GPS and Vehicles. However said new comforts to the game like the guns and the GPS help as much as it harms the game's overall attempt at horror once the player gets it going; a usual consequence of mastering the game, but a massive disparity compared to you just starting.

+ New and Improved Mechanics compared to the previous game like GPS and Combat
+ Fun Construction
+ Fun new ways of travel rather than just on foot
+ Items and Supplies more bountiful
+ Kelvin and Virginia are great companions; especially our simple-minded deaf boy.
+ Foraging and its bounties provide a rich potential for survival...
- ... That unfortunately become way less used with more powerful weapons and tools
- Alongside that, exploits in restarting the Server can outright spawn ammo and other supplies infinitely.
- The improvements and more action-oriented hurt the game just as much as it helps it slightly.
- Glider's busted mechanics essentially makes travel anticlimactic as it is easy to gain height.
- Firearms are utterly busted; made moreso since server restarting supplies you with more than enough bullets.
- Story is barebones despite the mystery

Even with the downsides, the game is extremely fun and especially moreso with a friend. I rate this 9/10

great game, the building is a great improvement from the first game, just wish the seasons went a bit longer but other than that, no complaints about the game

Probably the most immersive game I have ever experienced. Not only does the world feel alive and real, but the NPC's around the forest do as well, with them having the best enemy AI out of any game I have ever played (beside maybe Red Dead). Not only that, but the more I play the more I become intrigued about new items, enemies and the secrets behind the forest. At first glance of the game (around a year and a half ago) I was concerned that the "horror" within the game would take away from the survival aspect which I was yearning for, however I was mistaken as the aspects that include horror are seamlessly included in the story and overall survival. The game is also graphically stunning, and even with a mid-tier gaming lap top I am able to max out every graphic setting while maintaining around 50 FPS. This game is not only my far and away favorite survival game of all time, but a contender for my personal favorite game -- along with Elden Ring. Finally, if I have one tip for anyone thinking about purchasing the game, please take in every waking moment as it is such a unique experience, and as a final tip: make sure to never look any tips for your journey, and remember to save your game.
