Biography
American spiritualist and psychic who worked with Marc Edmund Jones and Zoe Wells on the Sabian Symbols and who was noted for being the primary contributor. The experiment was conducted in a quiet section of Balboa Park, San Diego, CA, 1925. Crippled with arthritis, she was carried there. Dr. Jones had prepared 360 cards, one for each degree of the zodiac, which were presented at random and were shuffled continuously. A card would be put face-down in front of Elsie who would then picture an image and report it.
The images did not seem entirely appropriate, or some were exaggerated, so the cards were put aside until 1931, when they were revised, a process that was repeated in 1948. The results were first published in 1951.
Wheeler died in 1938.
