A PUPIL at a school in Basingstoke has achieved the highest possible grade in every subject in her GCSEs and dreams of becoming a pilot.

Emily Chase, head girl at The Costello School, said she was in a "state of shock" after finding out she achieved 10 Grade 9s in her GCSEs.

Grade 9 is equivalent of an A** in the old grading system, and Emily joins an elite club that only a very few number of pupils in the whole of the UK achieve each year.

She said: "I am completely overwhelmed and in a state of shock. I was really not expecting to achieve 10 Grade 9s.

"The staff at Costello have been so supportive in lessons and have gone above and beyond outside of the classroom."

Emily now dreams big as she heads to Queen Mary's College for the next phase of her education, with the aspiration to continue flying high and become a pilot.

She continued: "I am so excited for my next chapter at Queen Mary's College, where I am studying geography, maths and physics.

"My plan for the future is to secure the finances to train to be a commercial pilot. I am absolutely thrilled."

Emily has already been awarded three flying scholarships to support her ambition to become a pilot.

A spokesperson for Bohunt Education Trust, which runs The Costello School, said: "A huge congratulations to Emily who recently completed her first solo flight.

"We wish her every success in her next steps."

Andy Conway, headteacher at The Costello School, said: "We are extremely proud of our students and all they have achieved.

"Their results reflect not only hard work and determination, but also the resilience and character they have shown throughout their time at Costello. For us, success is about more than grades, it’s about developing confident, compassionate young people ready to take their next steps with ambition and integrity.

"We are also grateful to our staff, families and wider community, whose support has helped create the thriving environment we value so highly. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of Costello students, and invite families to our Open Evening on Thursday, October 2 - a wonderful opportunity to experience what makes our school such a special place to learn and grow.”

Neil Strowger, Trust Leader at Bohunt Education Trust, said: “I am immensely proud of the efforts made by students across our schools.

"These GCSE results are testament to their hard work, dedication and resilience. Our commitment to ensuring the achievement of every student has led to these outcomes, which reflect the game-changing abilities of our students and staff and the excellence we strive for across BET.”
