Latitude 5400 Sleep Issues

We recently received over 100 Latitude 5400s. We have set all sleep and hibernate options to never go to sleep or hibernate. However after 24 hours they go to black screen, power button fades to black, and you cannot ping, RDP, or scan. We image them via SCCM, all drivers are up to date, and we doubled checked the settings.

The NIC has link lights at all times, and the computer will wake once you touch any keyboard key. But if you don't physically wake it up it thinks it is in sleep, or even hybrid sleep mode, which it doesn't even have. This is causing a problem since they are not receiving updates via SCCM, and we have 50 of these machines at a remote site that we cannot log in to.

If you're having this issue and the system is docked try this:

Latitude 5401 purchased Dec '20, running Win 10 20H2
(posted 29th Dec '20 - hope this helps someone)

Like others in this thread, I want to be able to close the lid of my laptop and know that it has gone to sleep and is not going to wake up in my laptop bag, and drain the battery.

Legacy Standby S3 should still be made easily available as an option. Who cares about resuming an extra few seconds quicker? I'd rather know that my laptop won't suddenly start up on its own.

I restored Legacy Standby S3 as follows:

  • BEFORE: run cmd - powercfg /a

  • In bios --> Performance --> C states Control - turn off C states
  • image.png
  • Registry: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power:
  • right click on Power (left tree), new DWORD, name "PlatformAoAcOverride" value 0
  • Restart
  • AFTER: run cmd -  powercfg /a  - Standby S3 is restored

Was researching this, the Dell 5411's have the issues as well, the workaround @centicon  used this works on Win 10 v21H2 as of 4/22/22

Sadly nothing of that working on 5421 and Win11. Disabling/enabling C-states didn't affect on available Sleep modes and adding PlatformAoAcOverride to registry disabled S0, S1,S2, S3 modes and left Hibernate and Fast Start available. S3 probably not supported anymore by hardware...

The same for me but on Windows 10 20H2... Any new ideas?

@centicon This worked for me after a 22H2 update stopped sleep from working. Thank you!
